A brilliantly staunched and outspoken defender of science and the principles of scientific discover, Richard Dawkins is the undisputed champion of reasoned text on genetics, evolution, phenotypic consequences (yeah!) and religious counterbalance. In his new book, The Magic of Reality: How We Know What’s Really True, he turns his attention to myths and the scientific truth behind them with the help of illustrations from Dave McKean.
The Magic of Reality is a much more visual book than his previous works like The Selfish Gene or The God Dellusion, as well as being much more accessible to younger readers, giving it a much wider potential readership. Though fans of his weightier tomes may be a bit disappointed in the lack of depth that usually goes into his work, there will still be more than a few nuggets of scientific info for all.
One of the myths debunked and explained scientifically is the sun god myth, so Dawkins should probably expect more than a few letters of complaint from the like of Lord Summerisle and friends.
Richard Dawkins, The Magic of Reality has a release date of the 15th September 2011 in hardback.
