The laconic, dead pan comedy brilliance of US comedian Reginal D Hunter is about to descend on the UK in a big way this year with with 45 tour dates planned for his The Man Who Attempted To Do As Much As Such show. The majority of us will know him most from his appearances on Have I Got News For You and QI, but the impending tour will be your best opportunity to see him leading the show as he tackles everything from science to philosophy in an attempt to do some stuff that feels like it might have a positive impact on the world.
Details on what the show will actually be about are a little thin on the ground, but Reg has laid out just enough clues to give us a fighting chance of guessing the point behind the cryptic title for the UK tour. Building off the go-getting, ambitious title you can also see the comedian in the promo shot above (full image below) in front of the Houses Of Parliament running away from a seemingly terrifying 4×4 car with the license plate KGB IA5 and a stormy sky in the background, so we can assume that political turmoil and shady intelligence will be high up on the agenda for unrelenting comic crossfire in the live shows.
He’s also holding a couple of dossiers with the first referring to his newfound interest into the madcap world of modern science, something that’s confirmed by his Twitter account profile, which describes him as a comedian swashbuckler scientist (it also refers to his libertine approach to life, for which we can only say, good work sir). The second set of papers refer to trouble in the Middle East, which adds to the political satire count, but also indicates that religion might be on the hit too.
For anyone not that familiar with RDH’s particular style of comedy you should expect to get pushed up to the line before being nudged over with deep-toned controversy. If you don’t leave the show with at least a little flicker of moral doubt then you’ve either not been paying attention, fallen asleep, slipped into a strawberry ice-cream and Murry Mints induced sugar coma or you’re so hepped up on poppers and Lucazade you’ve been too busy thinking about the Spongebob Squarepants Movie to pay attention.
