The 2014 line-up for the Reading and Leeds Festival has started to fill out with organisers drip grading us information if the headliners and bands that have been confirmed. The latest addition to roster is that Arctic Monkeys will be one of the headliners for the long weekend of music, bringing what has become a fairly hefty back catalogue of inspired material to the big stage at the late summer festival.
It’s the Arctic Monkeys’ third Reading and Leeds Festival spot following on from their 2006 debut and their previous headline gig in 2009. We’re not sure how much new material they’ll be playing, but with last year’s AM and the rest of their album back catalogue there’ll be a whole lot crammed into their set list as it is.
Their addition to the headline spot in the line-up comes on the heels of the announcement of the other headliner for the festival, Blink-182. They’ve also had a lot of experience with the event having headlined previously in 2010, along with their first appearance way back in 2003.
This leaves one other main headline spot free and the organisers will be announcing this over the next month or so as the anticipation for the festival’s full line-up builds. If we had to take a punt, our money would be on it being either The Killers, Vampire Weekend, Radiohead, ACDC or Red Hot Chili Peppers, but we’re wrong a lot of the time, so who knows for sure.
As well as the Arctic Monkeys and Blink-182 as the first two headliners, other bands already confirmed for Reading and Leeds 2014 include Courteeners, Jake Bugg, Warpaint and Metronomy. Expect a whole lot more to be added over the coming months, and we’ll be updating the details below to keep you up to speed on how the festival is shaping up.
This year’s event will be taking place between the 22nd and the 24th August 2014, split as usual between the Bramham Park site in Leeds and the dizzy sights of the Richfield Avenue setting in Reading. Tickets for either location are £210.50 online for the entire weekend. While the music won’t be kicking off in full until the Friday night, the gates to either venue will be opening on Thursday the 21st August at 8am, so you can have a day of park life before things really get up to speed.
