2020 looks set to be one of the quieter years in recent history for Disney but with the Raya And The Last Dragon UK release date (more details below) planned for late winter it looks like it’s got to be this year’s Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker. The culmination of the Skywalker saga was Disney’s big film during the Holidays last year, but with no Star Wars and no Avengers this year it falls to films like this to pick up the slack.
In all fairness, it’s not the only Disney film out during the year with the likes of Black Widow and The Eternals in the Marvel camp, plus Mulan and Jungle Cruise in the live action side. There are also two Pixar films out in 2020, Onward and Soul, but none of them amount to the big names we’ve had in the last few years with Disney’s big live action remake push and some big-name animated sequels.
AdvertisementHowever, hopefully that just means that we’re in for some great new stories this year, following on from the likes of Moana, Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen. The story is pretty much written in the title of the film with warrior Raya setting out on a search for the last dragon left in the world. It’s got traces of Mimi And The Mountain Dragon, but with a Mulan-style Kung Fu edge, so it’s going to be interesting to see how it all comes together in the trailer when it’s released
Cast
There aren’t that many big names in the cast for Raya And The Last Dragon, but then there’s still a long time to go until the release date, so there could be a few additional announcements along the way. At the moment only two actors have been confirmed with Cassie Steele voicing Raya and Awkwafina playing Sisu, the Last Dragon.

Raya And The Last Dragon UK release date
The Raya And The Mountain Dragon UK release date is set for Wednesday the 25th November 2020, making it the big Disney film out over the winter Holidays. There will also be a remake of West Side Story, which could steel the limelight, but our money is on Raya, but a lot will depend on the trailer and cast announcements for both.
It’s coming out with great placement for Christmas and New Year viewing, which will then set it up for an Easter DVD, Blu-ray and digital release. However, that’s far from a magic formula for success with the likes of the Cats movie and Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker both taking hits in 2019 compared to the weight of expectation.
AdvertisementThe other big film out on the same weekend as Raya in the UK is Warner Bros.’ King Richard, so it should do pretty well if the production is anywhere near as good as Moana.

Age rating and parents guide
As a Disney animated film Raya And The Last Dragon has got U written all over it, but the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) won’t confirm the UK age rating until a couple of weeks ahead of the release date. The only proviso is that sometimes Disney animations pick up a PG here and there, which was the case for Frozen, but then Frozen 2 was rated U, and Toy Story, which was then followed by three Us for its sequels.
As there’s going to be a Kung Fu warrior element to the story, that’s one of the big things to take into account in terms of a parents guide. It could also push up the age rating in the UK. In general, if you’re not comfortable with films like the original Mulan or Kung Fu Panda, then Raya and the gang might be off the cards for you too. We’ll know more with the arrival of the trailer.
