With the recent arrival of the demo, here’s the start of our Pikmin 4 walkthrough, which will see you taking on your first challenges in the game. Things start out with the Olimar setup, but it doesn’t take long to transition to the daring mission of the Rescue Corps to save the day.
All of this acts as a sort of introduction to Pikmin 4, a bit like the Great Sky Island in The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. If you’re a seasoned Pikmin player then you might only need a little of our walkthrough guide, but if this is your first rodeo then all of the details below will help you get started the right way.
AdvertisementThings get a little tougher the further you go in the game, so it’s a good opportunity to get a strong grounding in the mechanics and some of the new additions to the series. Oatchi is is perhaps the most important new element and you’ll meet him in the second part of our walkthrough as you arrive as the new Rescue Corps recruit. If you’ve already completed the introductory sections of Pikmin 4, you can carry on our walkthrough with part, Sun-Dappled Terrace, with the link below:

Olimar in da house walkthrough
Pikmin 4 introduces some very new environments and Olimar starts this off with the introduction sequence that takes place in the house. The first thing to do is to smash through the upside down plant pots with a Rush move by holding and releasing X and then you can get through to start to regroup your runaway Pikmin.
There are five Red Pikmin in the plant pots you just smashed through, two more to the left hidden behind the boxes, and five Yellow Pikmin in the pots on the other side of the space. You don’t need to find all of them, but the more you get the easier it will be against the spiked enemy on the coffee table.
AdvertisementYou can then just down to the floor and there’s a bunch more Pikmin next to the couch leading up to the books and boxes. Rush at the metal item blocking the center of the books and you’ll get more of the little fellows.
Head behind the sofa to get more circling the fan and you can ride the fan up to get higher. You can also make it into the kitchen using the ramp blocks and a well-timed jump if you really want to push up your Pikmin tally.
If you circle around the sofa and head for the artificial grass on the other you see more hiding in there. They’re also hiding under the TV cabinet, on top of the sports bag, on top of the toy blocks, in the pots behind them, on the paper coloring and on the cushion if you Rush it.

You should then have enough Pikmin to trigger your pup’s sniffer dog efforts and you can follow the scent up to the coffee table, picking up the few along the way. Rush the metal plate again and you’ll need to fight the spiky enemy up top. Avoid it’s spikes and when it’s bald you can Rush it to inflict damage.
AdvertisementCollect your Pikmin when it shakes them off and repeat the process to beat it and get the communications device. Olimar will then use it to send out an SOS signal and that’s it for the house section of our Pikmin 4 walkthrough.
You can see it all in action in the video above, including the next section of our guide, which will cover the efforts of Rescue Corps’ newest recruit. You can read all about what you need to do with the section below.
Rescue Corps intro walkthrough
Here our walkthrough gets to become the real protagonist of Pikmin 4, which allows you to create your own character and name it. You’ll only have a relatively small selection of character creation options, but you’ll probably survive.

You start out with the landing and then you’ll run into little Oatchi not too far away. You can use him to move the pile of earth blocking the way using A to send him in and then you’ll rescue your first fellow Corps member, Collin.
AdvertisementYou’ll pass the ship and get to a pile of dirt covering a manhole, so use Oatchi to clear it and drop down into the Burrow of Beginning. Down there you’ll find captain Shepherd, who you can free by sending Oatchi to defeat the little enemies, smash the pots with Rush and you can head up to the surface.
This will give you your base of operations for the rest of Pikmin 4 and tell you about your main mission to collect enough treasure to power the ship. You’ll also need to track down the rest of the rescue Corps members, and find out more about the whereabouts of Captain Olimar.
I you head to the right of the ship as you’re facing it you’ll find the first of the Pikmin onions, which will give you the Red fellows to add to your ranks. Dig it up with Oatchi and get him to carry it back to the ship.

Pluck your first Red Pikmin with A and then use it to get more. Throw it at the number 1 flowers and he’ll take them back to the onion and more sprouts will appear. Repeat this until you’ve enough to start collecting the treasure around the ship.
AdvertisementThere’s a fork in the corner next to the onion which requires 3 Pikmin to pick it up and take it back to the ship. There’s the golden bike bell behind the ship that requires 5 Pikmin to carry it and then a Gameboy Advance a little further around, but it’s up on a high ledge.
To knock it down, use Oatchi to Rush at the ledge and it’ll topple towards you. It’s the biggest of the treasure in this section of the walkthrough and you’ll need 10 Pikmin to carry it back. You can get Oatchi to join them to boost your numbers if you don’t want to spend time getting more.
That will give you enough treasure to convert into Sparklium to fix the ship to track signals, which will close out the day. You’ll then start with the Rescue Mission Day 2 in the same location, but if you talk to Collin he can send you to the next area to discover, Sun-Speckled Terrace.

Before you head out, you might want to boost your Pikmin numbers in the safety of the base. You can get as many as 20 at this stage and then you can head out. This is the end of our Pikmin 4 walkthrough Part 1 and we’ll pick thing sup with the Sun-Speckled Terrace next, which you can see with the link at the top of the page.
