Pikmin 4 Subzero Sauna Sublevel 2

Things get a bit confusing in Pikmin 4 Subzero Sauna Sublevel 2 with all of the frost on the lens, frozen water and trapped castaways to rescue. The game doesn’t really give you any clues in order to crack it all, but with our walkthrough guide you’ll be able to thaw things up and 100% Subzero Sauna.

The underground level is located in Serene Shores and you’ll need to complete it if you want to 100% the area. There’s plenty of treasure in Subzero Sauna and a couple of castaways to rescue, so it adds up to a good chunk of the percentage.

However, you can easily spend a lot of time on Sublevel 2 and not do the right things to be able to crack the ice and progress to the third level. If something isn’t in your way it’s easy to ignore it and in this case that will keep you spinning your wheels.

How to warm things up and break the ice in Subzero Sauna Sublevel 2?

When you land in Subzero Sauna’s Sublevel 2, you’ll see a box blocking the way on one side, but you can’t move it until later, so head in the other direction. Use the Ice Pikmin to break the fallen black of ice and then repeat the process for the rectangular block of ice just past it.

As mentioned above, Pikmin 4 give you zero clues about it, but these blocks of ice are the key to warming things up in the second level of the cavern. Essentially you need to find all of them and use the Ice Pikmin to break them apart. Once you get them all the area will warm up a little and the ice will melt.

Where to find all of the ice blocks in Sublevel 2?

With the first one taken care of with the details above, you then need to walk through the tunnel to the left of the ice blocks and at the end you’ll find bars blocking the path to the right. watch out for the falling ice and smash it with your Pikmin before jumping up to the level to the left.

Here, another ice block will fall, so break that up too and use your Pikmin to push the box down, so you can get back to the base easier. This will also give you access to the white Pikmin bud, to add to your tally of the poison absorbing little helpers.

Back in the area with ice next to the box you’ll see another rectangular ice block up on a level higher than the switch, so again use your Pikmin to smash it. With that done, the area will warm up and the ice will melt, giving you access to everything in the 2nd level.

What to do after you break the ice?

You then need to retrace your steps to the corridor at the end of the tunnel and head through the bars, leaving Oatchi behind. When you’re through the bars, defeat the ice ball rolling enemy and pluck the spare Pikmin to add to your numbers.

Head into the next area with the ice floor and use the Ice Pikmin to break the large blue ice cherry and then the ice block inside it. You’ll see the castaway you need to rescue. If you haven’t got both of the ice blocks yet, then they’ll be under the ice, but once you get them all you can land the rescue.

There are some more ice shards to break up on the other side of the room, but you’ll need to defeat the enemy first to give yourself the best chance of not losing any Pikmin along the way. Once that’s done you can use the Ice Pikmin to break the vent and the blue cherry to free the treasure.

Charge the spider that drops down to finish it quickly. You can then press the switch to bring down the bars, so that you can get everywhere with Oatchi to get all of the treasure in Subzero Sauna Sublevel 2, as well as the rescue.

Once you’ve got all of that done, you can head up to the hatch, which is behind where the last rectangular ice block was found. This will then take you down to Sublevel 3, which is a boss level.

As with the previous sublevel, it’s all about the ice blocks to defeat the Subzero Sauna boss, so take those out first with your Ice Pikmin. You can then charge it’s back with Oatchi to defeat it relatively quickly, leaving you free to 100% the level and get all of the treasure.

It will also throw out the second of the rescues for the area. Neither of them are integral to the main story, but if you’re looking to fully complete Pikmin 4 then you’ll need to get them back to base.

Conclusion

Completing Pikmin 4’s Subzero Sauna Sublevel 2 is all about breaking all of the rectangular ice blocks in the level. Once that’s done, the area will warm up and you’ll be free to trip the switch and rescue the castaway under the ice.
