The Pikmin 4 Ice Onion location is one that you’ll be itching to collect as soon as possible, but the reality is that you’ll need to jump Oatchi through a number of flaming hoops to get it. In addition to finding the location, you’ll then have the challenge of actually getting up to it, so we’ll talk you through everything that you need to do.
The Ice Onion may not be the only way to get more Ice Pikmin, but it does give you a lot more freedom to boost your numbers quickly. It isn’t quite the head wrack as how to get the Blue Onion was, but it not going to show up as early in the game, so if you want it as quickly as possible then you’re going to need to work for it.

Ice Onion location
The simple answer to the Ice Onion location in Pikmin 4 is that it can be found in the freezer drawer in Heroes Hideaway. However, if you haven’t gotten that far into the game then it’s not going to mean a great deal to you.
AdvertisementHeroes Hideaway is the 4th area that you unlock in the game, so you’ll need to make your way through the main story quests for Sun-Speckled Terrace, Blossoming Arcadia and Serene Shores before you get to it. It’s the big house that you get to explore as Olimar during the introduction to the game.

How to get to the Ice Onion location
Okay, so knowing where the Ice Onion location is in Pikmin 4 is far from half the battle, because there’s a lot to do to get there. You will have probably made it through Sun-Speckled Terrace during your playthrough of the Demo, but if you haven’t you can see the full walkthrough with the link below.

To unlock Blossoming Arcadia, you just need to get enough Sparklium by collecting treasure, which is relatively easy. It’s a similar story for Serene Shores, so just focus on getting treasure back to the base and you’ll expand your radar range from Blossoming Arcadia to move on to the next area.
Things are a bit more complicated in terms of getting to the Ice Onion location at the Heroes Hideaway area. To get here, you’ll need to locate the doctor and pilot for the ship, completing the Pikmin 4 quest to locate all members of the Rescue Corpse team.
We’ve created a complete guide on how to get the Doctor to cure Leaflings in Pikmin 4, but if you just want to general gist, you can find Yonny in Blossoming Arcadia’s Drafty Gallery cavern. It’s to the north west of the map and you get to it by completing the bridges blocking the way.
Drafty Gallery has four sublevels and you’ll find the doctor in the last one, which is Sublevel 4. Defeat the boss enemy standing in your way and he’ll give you Yonny, and you can get him back to get Night Mode expeditions, which will give you the cure for the Leafling condition of some of the castaways you’ve rescued.
Next up, you’ve got the pilot, Bernard, who you can find in Serene Shores. He’s being held by a Leafling and you’ll need to make it to the south west or the area to get to the location. The cavern that you’re looking for is called Dandori Castle, and you’ll need to win the battle to claim Bernard.
Unfortunately, he gets turned into a Leafling in the process, so you’ll need the Doctor to cure him. Complete one of the Night Mode expeditions to get the cure and you’ll have all of the Rescue Corps team allowing you to travel to Heroes Hideaway, the location for the Ice Onion.

How to get the Ice Onion from up in the freezer in the kitchen?
AdvertisementThe final part of the Ice Onion location puzzle in Pikmin 4 is to be able to get up to the freezer drawer in the kitchen in Heroes Hideaway. You can follow along with this with the video above, but it starts by making it up to the kitchen counter.
Head down to the ground floor from where you land in Heroes Hideaway and circle around the sofa. At the top of the room you’ll see a shelf unit with drones flying up the side of it. Ride these to the top and you’ll be up to the kitchen counter.
Make your way past the sing and this will bring you to the cooker, which is on and if you look to your left you should be able to see the fridge freezer with the Ice Onion in an open drawer. Getting to it can be a bit confusing, but you’re definitely on the right track.
You can’t get up to the ledge above with an Oatchi jump, or any other combination of moves. Instead, you need to head into the cavern in the flames of the oven hob. Don’t worry about getting singed, because you don’t, so just walk up to it and press A to enter.

Make your way through the sublevels for Frozen Inferno, and if you get stuck you can follow along with the walkthrough video below. Once you make it to the exit you’ll come out through the cavern lid up on the higher counter that you need to get to for the Ice Onion.
Remember to activate the fan to be able to get back up to the ledge any time you need to and then you can jump down to the drone to get a ride to the freezer shelf location. Send in your Pikmin to free the Ice Onion and then get it back to your base to add it to your main Onion to complete the job.
