If you’ve just made it to the end of Below Grade Disco in Pikmin 4 and you’re getting rave-tanked then you might need our Disco Long Legs boss fight guide. It starts out pretty chill, but once the bass kicks in it can take control of vast amounts of your Pikmin, who lose their minds to dance.
You get to Disco Long Legs at the end of Below Grade Disco, so you’ll need to make it all the way down to Sublevel 5 to take on the boss fight. It’s pretty easy to get here without completing it 100%, so if you’ve missed any of the treasure you can watch the full walkthrough guide for the level in the video below.
AdvertisementFor everyone else, the challenge will be making it through the battle with Disco Long Legs without a mass wipe-out of Pikmin along the way. Pikmin 4 does bosses differently to the previous games in the series, so you might not have faced a challenge like this as of yet, especially if you haven’t played any of the other games in the series.

Pikmin 4 Disco Long Legs tips
The key to Pikmin 4’s Disco Long Legs boss fight is to focus on keeping your Pikmin away from it when it’s about to unleash it’s dance craze move. If you don’t then lots of your Pikmin will stop responding to your whistle and rave on underneath it’s disco ball of doom.
It’s fairly difficult to stop all of them from getting in on the dance fun, but the idea is that you get out before it squirts out its disco mist. Yellow Pikmin are your best bet in this fight, because they fly high enough to be able to land straight on the ball, so hurl lots of them up there, but be ready to call them back.
AdvertisementWhenever it goes still and you start to see it priming the mist in its legs, whistle everyone out of there and get to safety. You should also whistle them back when it spins them off, because if they’re just left to their own devices then they’ll gets stomped by it’s long legs of death.
This is the biggest threat to the Pikmin that get overtaken by the rave mist too. It’s not that big of a deal if there are just a few of them caught up in the haze, but if there are too many then there will be more of them in the firing line of Disco Long Legs’ thudding splat feet.
When it goes red and starts to kicks up the beats, this is a good chance to fire in a lot of the Yellow Pikmin and chip away at its health wheel. However, at the end of this phase it’ll hurl all of them far away, so be ready on Oatchi to whistle them back to safety as quickly as you can.
By this stage, you should be around the half way stage in the boss fight, so it’s just a case of repeating the steps once again. Fire in more Yellow Pikmin and be ready to call them back when it spins them or stops to charge up its disco mist.
AdvertisementAs you make it through the phases, you should get a bit more confidence in the process, so you can throw more in to do damage faster. However, if you’re still not too sure about how to get the job done or you end up getting overwhelmed anyway, you can check out the video below to see the full boss fight.
If you get enough Yellow Pikmin on the ball it’ll drop to the ground giving you a chance to charge it with Oatchi for a quick final quarter of its health. It doesn’t stay there for long and it isn’t massively obvious what’s going on, but you can see it doing it in the video above at 02:02.
The only other tip for Disco Long Legs in Pikmin 4 is to stay away from its stomping feet. These will knock Oatchi or your character to the ground leaving your Pikmin vulnerable, so it’s a good idea to keep moving away from them and to guide your little army away from them too.
Once you defeat it, you’ll get the treasure and the blocked door at the end of Below Grade Disco will open. This will allow you through to rescue the last of the castaways and 100% the cavern if you’ve got the treasure from the previous sublevels.
Conclusion
In order to defeat Disco Long Legs, you need to fire up the Yellow Pikmin at the disco ball abdomen and be ready to whistle them back any time it spins or stands still to prime its rave mist attack. It’s the first boss in Pikmin 4 that will punish you big time if you don’t rescue your guys, so follow along with the guide notes above and you should be able to beat it down and close down it’s disco of doom forever.
