Pikmin 3 Deluxe may well be an updated port from the Wii U, but its arrival on the Nintendo Switch is still going to be high up on a lot of gamers plans. To point you all in the right direction, you can start the journey off with the walkthrough series below to see how the groundbreaking franchise works.
The reality is that a lot of players will have missed out on the game due to the lower unit sales for the previous console, but with the massive success of the Switch, the 3rd entry in the Pikmin series is finally getting the widespread attention it deserves. It combines exploration and puzzle-solving with some seriously beastly boss fights.
You start off with a trio of space explorers that crash land on the Pikmin planet. In the crash, they get separated, so you start out trying to reunite the three of them. It doesn’t take long before you bump into your first Pikmin and they become your allies in the field as you tackle obstacles and get past the fearsome creatures of the planet.
There are five different Pikmin to find in the game, but you start out with just red, yellow and black. However, later you’ll find blue and pink varieties to help you go even further in the game.
Red Pikmin are you attack force. They’re good at fighting and they’re perfect against any fire enemies, because they’re immune to it. Yellow Pikmin can deal with any electrical issues that you might have and Black Pikmin are your heavy bombers, so they can break any glass barriers down or crunch hard-shelled enemies into submission. The problem for the crew of explorers is that they only have a small supply of food, so they need to collect as much of the native fruit as they can to survive. The good news is that the fruit is massive, but with so many enemies running around it can be a challenge keeping up with your requirements, especially after you get all fo the crew together.
If that isn’t enough to think about, you also start to pick up on signals from another explorer and this gets added to the list of things to pursue. For anyone that knows the series, you’ll recognise him as Captain Olimar, who featured in the first two games in the series.
