Parquet Courts are about to drop once again like heavily interlaced wooden flooring on a builder’s head with the announcement of their new EP, Tally All The Things That You’ve Broke. As well as an ongoing and seemingly never ending UK tour the Brooklyn four piece has also released a stream of You’ve Got Me Wonderin’ Now, the lead track from the EP, to celebrate the launch of their latest material.
Building on their 2011 debut, American Specialities, and the critically acclaimed 2012 follow-up, Light Up Gold, the upcoming EP is described by the band as less of a stop-gap between full length studio albums and more of a continuation or stretching out of their sound in the shorter term. In other situations it might be easy to rubbish such a claim, but with the sheer impact of You’ve Got Me Wonderin’ Now alone, you can tell that they’ve got a point and we definitely wouldn’t want to wait for it to come out on an album in a year or so.
Tally All The Things That You’ve Broke is set for a release date of the 8th October 2013 as a part of their recently signed distribution with the What’s Your Rupture? record label. The EP is made up of five tracks, and if You’ve Got Me Wonderin’ Now is anything to go by they should add to the growing reputation of band members, Sean Yeaton (bass), Austin Brown (guitar), Andrew Savage (lead vocals and guitar) and Max Savage (drums).
It’s a beast of a track with chunks of grunge, punk and rock all condensed in the mix. Listen to the stream below to hear for yourself, but our take is that it sounds like the bigger, older and more aggro brother to a Los Camposinos, Ramones and Velvet Underground love child. It’s got great rock n roll punk pace and blitzes out feedback flare and solid fuzz in equal measures.
