The No Time To Die trailer landed today (check it out in full below) after the excitement of the mini teaser we had on the weekend and while it has a lot of cool action the jury is still out on whether it’ll be the show-stopper everyone is hoping for. It definitely has its moments, though, with the motorbike stunt up the stone stairway being the best, so here’s a roundup of some of the most significant reaction to the trailer, along with our own review.
Trailer reaction
Firstly, there’s the comments on the trailer. At the time of writing there were 6.2k comments reacting to the trailer, which had 52k views at the time. Obviously, we haven’t ploughed through all of them, because there’s just way too many silly comments to pass over, but the general gist is that there’s high hopes for No Time To Die with the potential of Rami Malek’s performance being a big part of the expectation.
AdvertisementThe hope continues with the reaction on Twitter with a lot of support for Daniel Craig. The overarching feeling is that everyone wants him to go out on a high, following his announcement last month that No Time To Die would be his last outing as James Bond. There are a lot of thumbs up emojis, so the sentiment still appears to be fairly positive, but we’ll leave Twitter first impressions on the sheer positivity of this tweet by JDoors:
Things are way more involved with the reaction over on YouTube with some fairly chunky videos on the trailer. Both director Cary Fukunaga and actress Anna de Armas get a big shoutout as positive forces behind the film by James Hancock in his reaction video.
Grace Randolph of Beyond the Trailer fame talks about how cool Lashana Lynch looks as new 00 agent Nomi, describing her as amazing. She also refers to Rami Malek as a potential secret weapon for the film.
AdvertisementThe guys over at The Reel Project talk about how much better the film looks compared to how Spectre finished up.
No Time To Die trailer review
In terms of our No Time To Die trailer review, it continues the sentiment of hopeful optimism from the reaction to the trailer. It isn’t perfect, but the action sequences are genuinely epic, there’s a real sense of menace and it’s definitely going to be interesting to see how the film brings everything together and continues the story from Spectre, which didn’t get the same level of critical reception as Skyfall or Casino Royal.
The addition of Lashana Lynch looks genuinely exciting. She may not be the first female 00 agent to feature in the films, but she is the first to feature so prominently and she lands with some of the best lines in the trailer. Equally, Rami also looks like he could potentially be the dark dark horse the film needs and with all of the Dr. No speculation it’s going to be a fun countdown for the No Time To Die release date.
The best thing about the trailer is that is sort of gets better the more you watch it and the more you try to place it all within the canon. You can read some of our initial cons, but they do start to water down after a second and third watch. There’s definitely more to No Time To Die than meets the eye and it’s going to be exciting to find out what it all means.
On the negatives, the biggest is that it feels a little too bogged down in the continued storyline from Spectre with both Léa Seydoux and Christopher Waltz featuring heavily in the plot progression for No Time To Die. However, maybe the franchise is looking to give the film more credibility by adding to their respective character development.
This is added to be the lack of presence for Rami Marick, who was only teased in a minor shots as he turns to bond after Daniel Craig delivers the line “history isn’t kind to men who play God. It’s one of the coolest sections of the trailer, but it’s definitely a shame we don’t get to see more of the villain, because if you go on the trailer alone it looks like it’s still the Christoph Wilts show and with the name Blofeld casting a shadow over everything the potential of Malek gets a little sidelined as a result, which feels like a shame.
The other area of previously trodden ground in the trailer is Daniel Craig’s relationship with Léa Seydoux’s character Madeleine Swann. It looks like there is too much of the Eva Green angle to the way the story is going to go, but with Phoebe Waller-Bridge as one of the writers we’re hopeful that this is just a very clever ruse in the trailer.
AdvertisementEssentially, our biggest issue is that there isn’t enough of the new to go with the old. However, if this does turn out to be a dummy to hide some incredible plot twists, and that the plan is to give the very essence of James Bond a heavy shake and an even heavier stir, then it could well be the big bang everyone is hoping for.
