Nintendo Wii U release date

Nintendo Wii U ZeldaIt’s official, the Nintendo Wii U release date for the UK has been announced and no surprises for everyone that had their wagers resting on Christmas. The Nintendo Wii U is already available to order from Amazon.co.uk

, but you’ll still have to wait until the official UK release date of the 30th November to get your misty eyed little mitts on it.

There are a few things to know before you get any more excited…

  • The Nintendo Wii U features full HD graphics.
  • It will be released with the new touch screen tablet controller that can be used to take the game off the big screen, as well as interacting with the games in news ways, like becoming a shield, providing off screen info about a game or giving one person in multi-player a different role in the game (the trailer below will show you how it works).
  • The new Wii U controller has a 6.2inch wide screen, as well as an acceleration detector, a gyroscope and a rumble feature. The addition of a camera, a microphone and speakers means that Nintendo have built in communication functionality into the development of the Wii U.
  • You’ll be able to use your old Wii remote controls too, and backwards compatibility with Wii games is also possible.
  • The next generation games console features high levels of RAM specs and 25Gb discs making it fairly future proof no matter what Microsoft and Sony throw into the mix next year.
  • The Nintendo Wii U does not currently feature controller-less body movement detection, which will make it difficult to compete with the wonder of the Xbox Kinect if it’s advanced for the Xbox 720. However, I’d Nintendo can put the tech together before summer next year it could be game set and match, Shimamoto.
  • It does, however, have more serious gamers in mind, as well as the family friendly fun of the Wii. Check out our breakdown of Nintendo Wii U games to find out more about what’s being released.
  • The Wii U is being released in either the basic 8 GB pack, which comes with just the white console & touch-screen controller, the 32GB premium pack with the black console & touch-screen controller or the 32GB ZombieU pack which includes the black console, touch-screen controller and a copy of ZombieU.

With all this in mind, and the fact that both Microsoft and Sony are a fair way away from putting out their own new consoles, the pre-Christmas release date for the Nintendo Wii U is still the biggest thing on the gaming calendar for a long time to come. Get in there fast if you don’t want to be disappointed at Christmas.
