Now that we know that the Nintendo Wii U console is on its way in 2012 it’s time to look at what Nintendo Wii U games will be released alongside it. From the first videos from E3 and recent announcements from Nintendo, it looks like games for the Wii U are going to be much more varied, blurring the line between serious gaming and family fun much more than the Wii managed to do.
First up, there’ll be Super Mario Bros Mii, in which you can take your Mii character on a run through the Mushroom Kingdom. There’ll also be a Super Smash Brothers sequel released early on for the Wii U, as well as a Raving Rabbids game. Pikmin 3 has also been confirmed giving a fresh boost to the family fun potential of the console. Hopefully it’ll be massively multiplayer with online capabilities and full use of the motion controllers and game tablet.
The obvious bridge between the family fun and the serious gaming has got to be the the upcoming Legend of Zelda game scheduled for the Nintendo Wii U. If the graphic demos at E3 are anything to go by it looks like it’s going to be the greatest Link game ever. With the shield and bow and arrow capabilities of the Wii U tablet, it could be one of the first game releases to really showcase the capabilities of the console.
However, the big news is that serious gamers will now be high up on the agenda for Nintendo, which is a huge change format eh current situation for the Wii. Tekken is coming over to Nintendo, which is huge in itself, but there will also be the likes of Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge, Darksiders 2 and Assassin’s Creed. What this means is that, hopefully, the gaming experience on the Nintendo console for serious gamers will rival the next generation games consoles from Microsoft and Sony.
With the launch date for the Nintendo Wii U looking likely to be delayed until late spring, early summer 2012 there’s still plenty of time for third party games developers to get involved, so expect more news to follow.
