The man mountain that is Nick Frost (Attack the block) is about to return to the big screen in a very bizarre way in his latest film, Cuban Fury. Bringing the heat of salsa to his movie repertoire, which already includes aliens, Tintin and zombies, Frost is taking the lead role for the first time in the unlikely rom-com.
Cuban Fury is the story of former salsa dancing legend, Bruce Garret, who has fallen on slobier times following his former glory. Played by Frost, his love of the sultry dance is reignited when he falls for his new boss, Julia Matthews, played by Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation), who happens to be a keen salsa dancer. With a new-found appreciation, he has to find the Cuban fury inside himself to win her heart.
Chris O’Dowd (IT Crowd) also stars in the film as Drew, Bruce’s work nemesis who’s intent on cockerel blocking his move for Julia. It’s cool to see Rashida Jones taking a two step into cinema having been brilliant in American sit-com, Parks and Recreation. The cast is rounded out by Olivia Colman.
Despite a genuine dislike for salsa and dancing in general, Frost spent months shaking his curvy hips throughout 2012 for the filming of the movie. Although, it was announced on Cuban Fury’s Facebook and Twitter profiles that the last day of re-shoots happened on the 20th March 2013, so he’s probably been dancing for just over a year now, which is pretty impressive for the Spaced cowboy.
A bit like a cross between Blades of Glory and Run Fatboy Run, Cuban Fury was initially given a release date of the 22nd March 2013, however, a re-shoot has pushed the date back to either July or August. A full trailer hasn’t been released as of yet either, but it shouldn’t be too far away. However, there is a series of video blogs for the film to give you a glimpse of what to expect. The first is embedded below.
