Moonrise Kingdom release date & soundtrack album

Moonrise Kingdom Movie PosterWes Anderson’s kooky and fascinating films have got a very distinct feel to them, and with the upcoming cinematic release of his latest film Moonrise Kingdom, that feel is back again with a very unique take on young love and coming of age. A big part of that stand-out style comes from the music in the films and Moonrise Kingdom is no different.

The release of the soundtrack album for the movie is set for release is set for the 21st May 2012 with the film getting a full release date of the 25th, although it will be premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on the 16th. The full track listing for the album is below and if the trailer is anything to go by it’s going to be a great double release for the start of the summer.

With some parallels with last year’s brilliant Submarine, Moonrise Kingdom follows young scout Sam Shakusky (Jared Gilman) who manages to escape the confines of his sleepy New England town and run away with his girlfriend Suzy (Kara Hayward). With Bruce Willis’ Captain Sharp and Harvey Keitel’s Commander Pierce in pursuit along with Suzy’s parents (Bill Murray and Frances McDormand) and Ned Flanders-esque Scoutmaster Ward (Edward Norton), it’s a frantic race to save their romantic runaway fun.

Set in the 60s the music is obviously influenced by the period, but it’s a much less obvious influence than could have otherwise been the case, making the soundtrack more of a discovery record as opposed to being nostalgic. Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom looks and sounds like it’s going to be class. It’s got a perfect all star and new recruits cast, the addition of Roman Coppola as co-writer with Anderson and a perfect appreciation for the finer things in life, including great music.
