Monolith productions has just landed with a brand-new trailer showcasing its impressive upcoming sequel to Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor. This time around it focuses on the open world environment we’ll all have as our playground when Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War arrives in August later this year.
The emphasis is clearly on the term “massive” because that’s exactly the very perfect description of what the trailer tells us about the game. Not only will there be vast and sprawling lands for you to explore, but they will also be incredibly varied; taking you from the land to the sea, through mountains, over thick snow and right the way up to the very dark heart of Mordor itself.
However it’s not just the landscapes that feature in the new open world trailer as the footage also shows off some of the characters and enemies that you’ll encounter. This includes everything from mighty orcs – both enemies and those that you turn to your sword as you progress in the game – and massive war beasts, to fire-breathing dragons and enormous ogres to take down with Talin’s trusty sword of vengeance.

The trailer also shows off a lot of Talin’s Wraith powers as he tries to use every advantages he has to exact his revenge against the Dark Lord, Sauron. From the look of the footage alone, it looks like it’s going to be a fairly straightforward jaunt through Middle-Earth for him, but if the last game is anything to go by, we’re expecting a lot more challenge than that.
Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War will be arriving on 22 August 2017 on Xbox ONE and PC, with a release date for the PlayStation 4 scheduled for a few days later on the 25th August 2017. The trailer has also confirmed that the game will be out on Project Scorpio too. However, we’re expecting the latter to arrive later in the year, probably mid-October with the arrival of the new console.
If that’s the case it means that the new console should be with us with us part way through autumn, bringing with it a new generation of gaming systems that will feature Shadow Of War as one of its launch titles. We will undoubtedly find out more at E3 2017 next month, so stay tuned for more details. It’s going to be interesting to see how Sony responds to the new hardware release.
It’s a little bit unconventional for the game to have a later release on the PlayStation four, which would indicate some form of special relationship between the developers and Xbox. Perhaps this is the latest developments in the ongoing consul wars that we will been caught up in since the 1990s.
The sequence towards the end of the open world trailer confirms that if you pre-order the game you’ll get a bonus of four legendary orc champions and the Sword of Dominion to play with. It also shows off the Gold Edition of the game, which will include a gold war chest, 2 nemesis expansions and 2 story expansions.
