With the release of Marvel Spider-Man 2 on the PS5, we now know who the final boss fight is against. However, if you don’t want any spoilers you really shouldn’t be on a page all about the final boss fight, so this is the point of no return for story details.
The launch trailer looked incredible, and gave us a lot to go on, so it should come as no surprise to find out that Venom is the big bad at the very end of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The third game in the series is definitely up there with the previous game and the final boss fight lives up to expectations following in the footsteps of Doctor Octopus in the first game and The Tinkerer in the second.

Our initial thoughts on the final boss fight
Prior to the game coming out, there were a number of options that Insomniac had for the final boss, so there was no way we can know for sure but there are some clear main contenders to look at. We probably haven’t had a Spider-Man game with quite so many villains in the mix, making it a bit like the third Sam ramey Spider-Man film, but hopefully there’s no Bully Maguire to bring things down.
It’s hard not to get swept up in the excitement for the game and while we won’t get to take on the final boss fight until after the release date, here’s everything we know about it so far. As things stand, there are probably three main contenders in the mix, so we’ll take you through each of those and give you our final verdict towards the bottom of the page.

Option #1: The final boss fights in Marvel Spider-Man 2 will be Venom
AdvertisementThis is probably the most obvious option for the final boss fight, with all of the promotional material featuring Venom, both as a symbiote with Peter and as a main antagonist, which we think will shift into place towards the end of the game. The big question, though, is who will be joined with the big bad Venom, and as things stand there are at least three options with each of these being individual options for the final boss fight too.
Firstly, there’s Harry Osborne who we’ve already seen bonded with the symbiote in the end game scenes for both Marve’s Spider-Man and Miles Morales. Considering the fact that he’s already been bonded to the beast, it seems likely that it might happen again when he’s in some kind of rage, resulting in a dilema for Peter Parker and Miles Morales as they wrestle with trying to defeat Venom without killing Harry.
AdvertisementIt’s also possible that the final boss fight with Venom might just be Harry’s dad Norman Osborne. We haven’t seen him bonded to the symbiote, but the fact that it has already attached itself to Harry is a good sign that his DNA will be a good match with Venom too.
Again, this could well be caused by some kind of traumatic incident which we’ll go into more detail about in the sections below. However, they might not be quite as much moral ambiguity for Peter and Miles with Norman who has historically been more of an out-and-out villain then a mixed up buddy of Peter’s.

We’ve also got Kraven the Hunter in the mix. He’s clearly got an eye on a lot of prizes in New York City and while he’s probably been put on a job by Norman to bring in Kirk Connors, he could go his own way and try to take Venom for himself. For us, this would probably be the most dangerous potential Venom we could face as the final boss, so it makes a lot of sense, but at the same time it seems like a slightly extreme fit for the villain who’s got enough going on with this crazy hunter shtick.
Just to throw in a curveball, there is an outside chance for the final Venom that you have to face to be Pete. We already know that he’s going to bond with the symbiote to become Venom for large portion to the game, and it’s possible that towards the end the darker side takes over similar to Bully Maguire in Spider-Man 3. However, this would sort of take away the two Spidies hook of the game and kind of make for a slightly disjointed final boss fight, so we’re doubtful that it’ll go on to be the case.
Option 2: Kraven the Hunter is the final boss fight
In addition to the potential of Kraven the Hunter being the final boss fight with a link up as Venom, it’s also possible that he could be the final boss just as himself. It’s clear from all of the trailers that he’s going to be a pretty formidable villain, and as things progress in the game, it could well become clear that he’s got his own plan to circumvent Norman’s control and take all of the prizes for himself.
It’s a character that Marvel and Sony are going to want to build up in light of his introduction to the big screen in the Kraven the Hunter movie, so it definitely makes sense to do something big with him in Marve’s Spider-Man. 2. This would then leave the rest of the Norman and Harry story arc for yet another game later in the series.
AdvertisementWith the success of the Spider-Man games, Sony PlayStation is definitely going to want to keep things going, so there’s bound to be at least one more game to come. With this in mind, the 3rd game may well develop the Harry and Norman story a little bit more, but then save the full progression into the Green Goblin or for the third game.
Option 3: The Green Goblin is the final boss fight in Marvel Spider-Man 2
Finally, it’s still possible that either Harry Osborne or his dad Norman might become the Green Goblin towards the end of Marve’s Spider-Man 2, and this could be the surprise final boss fight in the game. As mentioned above, it probably makes more sense to save this for yes another game in the series, but even if they do unleash one form of the Green Goblin as the final boss, there’s still scope to reintroduce the character in a sequel.
With Norman an the mix, this could easily be done. One would be Green Goblin in 2 only for the second to take up the mantal in the next Spider-Man game. For us, this would be maximum impact, but then it would take away a little of the potential for the sequel so it could go either way.
Spider-Man has a pretty big rogue’s gallery, so even with Doc Ock down, Venom done and Green Goblin out for the count, there would still be options for a sequel. You’ve only got to look at what they did with The Tinkerer in Spider-Man Miles Morales to see how much control they can bring to a character even when they’re not historically that well known or impressive.
The final verdict
AdvertisementIf we have to put a verdict on on things we’d say that Venom has the biggest potential to be the final boss fight in Marvel Spider-Man 2 and with so much promotional material featuring the character, it definitely makes sense. There are plenty of options for who the symbiote will bond with for the final fight, but a slightly unhinged Harry makes sense for the future progression of the story.
This would give us a bittersweet ending to the game with Peter Parker and Miles Morales defeating Harry as Venom but leaving him with no chance of survival. This would results in an enraged Norman Osbourne who would then be out for revenge in the next game tapping into his alter ego, the Green goblin.
There’s a lot of comic book history to back this theory up, but it’s equally likely to be a flip reverse of that with Norman being Venom in the final boss fights in Marvel Spider-Man 2 and then Harry going on to be Green Goblin when his dad is hurt or killed. Either way, it’s looking incredibly exciting and we can’t wait to get our hands on the game to make it to the final boss fight.
In terms of how to defeat the final boss, we’ll add in more details as soon as we take it down, along with information about which option it ended up being. The good news is that there’s just a couple of days to go so everything is building up for one incredible weekend of gaming.
