Mark Watson has announced that he will not be embarking on a big Edinburgh Festival inspired stand-up series this year, favouring instead to focus on his new-found passion, being a novel writer. Despite this, there will still be a few smaller live ramblings gigs to look forward to, but equally there will be more new books from the comedian and writer.
Unbeknownst to the majority of the people that appreciate Mark Watson’s comedy style he’s been busy writing novels for a good few years now. He’s written four now dating back to his debut with 2004’s Bullet Points, which centred around a psychologist from Chicago with a unique method for helping people.
He followed this up with A Light Hearted Look At Murder in 2007, which featured a Hitler look-alike and fifth tallest woman in Britain love story, and Eleven in 2010, which focused on a series of 11 chain reaction events set into motion by a late night radio DJ. His most recent novel, The knot, was released in 2012 with a story that revolves around a wedding photographer with a troubled inner feeling that has kept him from his own happy ending.
Though a title has yet to be announced, Watson is currently working on a number of writing projects, instead of doing his customary Edinburgh show and following tour. On his blog site he states, “I’m focusing on the next novel, which is coming along nicely, and another book beyond that, and various other writing projects which I think you will like when you find out about them.”
However, there will be the occasional gig date throughout the rest of 2013, but these will be more along the lines of work-in-progress sets of between 45 and 60 minutes. Two have been announced already, including August 5th 2013 at the Phoenix Festival in Cirencester and September 12th ay Invisible Dot in Kings Cross, London.
More dates will be added shortly, so keep checking back for more details on Mark’s 2013 sets, plus further updates about the work-in-progress books that he’s got tucked up his wooly jumper.
