Not content with the genius of Super Mario 3D Land or Mario Kart 7 on the 3DS, Nintendo are also about to bring back the powershot might of Mario Tennis for the 3DS. Mario hit his first tennis ball back in 1995 on the Virtual Boy and has gone on to feature on most of the console developments to follow, so the big question is how Mario Tennis 3DS will build on the series.
Straight off the bat, the big updates will be the addition of gyroscopic controls to give shots more real life control. The potential for this is huge, giving players the ability to control the weighting and spin of their killer shots.
The obvious addition to the powerhouse series is the fact that the game will be in 3D (probably best quite toned down though) which should make judging the depth of the ball a little easier. Then there’s the fact that you’ll also be able to play the game on the move, with stunning graphics and against people from all over the world, as well as co-op 2-player.
There’s little information about the character roster, but it’s bound to be similar to previous Mario Tennis games, with the addition of maybe a few more non-Mario characters that get involved in the likes of Smash Brothers games. How cool would a final be between Mario and Link? If the video’s anything to go by, Mario, Bowser, Toad, Princess and Luigi are pretty safe bets
The full release date for Mario Tennis 3DS is the 25th May 2012.
