Max Rockatansky has just returned as the hero that Fifi always wanted him to be with the release of the movie reboot, Mad Max: Fury Road and it’s already shaping up to be an epic reprisal. The Mad Max game is also on it’s was, so we’ve put together our Mad Max infographic as a reminder about the three movies that laid the foundations for the new work.
The infographic (see embed code below to share) looks at all the key aspects of the movies, including their respective box office success, baddie kill count, the price of fuel in the UK, US and Australia at the time of the films’ release, the mad mad weaponry used and the iconic vehicles that made the films stand out so much.

While the first Mad Max film is probably the quintessential movie from the trilogy, with Beyond the Thunderdome bringing up the rear, it’s clear from our infographic that things got the craziest in the second outing for Max Rockatansky. It had the most bizarre vehicles, ranging from everything from a gyrocoptor to the dying captives adorned Humungus mobile, as well as a return for the supercharged Pursuit Special, a 1973 Ford XB Falcon GT351.
However, it’s when you compare the weapons that made it into the films that you can really see how much things escalated in Mad Max 2: Road Warrior. Bloody boomerangs, tridents, snakes and flamethrowers all caused carnage throughout the film, not to mention Lord Humungus’ overly cosseted gun, a sighted Smith & Wesson Model 29 revolver.
We loved looking back at the price of fuel in the different countries while we were creating the infographic. If only it was still as cheap as it was back in 1979, although that’s probably what let to all the global warming.
We’re hoping that both Fury Road and the Mad Max game turn out to be just as cult classic as the first two movies have become, while avoiding some of the negatives that found their way into Beyond the Thunderdome.
