Loretta Maine, goes Bipolar for the Edinburgh Festival

Loretta Maine Bipolar Edinburgh FestivalBy James Barnett: “A deliciously dark Fringe is the Maine attraction…..”

Loretta Maine is likely to covet headline status at the fringe of comedy when performing at Edinburgh Festival later this year.

A self-assured bi polar show of comedy and parody – reincarnating the performance of the insecure female song writer, to a satirical joining of Queen Elizabeth meets Avril Lavigne, slices a delicate chord of humour.

Loretta’s performance, which will combine the murderous resentment for the gothic image of neurotic insanity and frivolous self-depreciation, is a deliciously dark form of comedy that is far more memorable than other barbed acts.

The entertainment is likely to be an enhanced version of the 99 Club comedy club shows this year that allowed Loretta to disseminate the characteristics of the truly absurd female satire and weave it into new gothic territory, cleverly avoiding the uninspired cliché humour.

Inspiring moments favouring the portrayal of Pixie Lott and Women’s magazines does little to sponsor female anxiety and is an original take on feminist issues’ albeit in a highly absurd fashion. Expect to cover Lilly Allen & Rihanna as key iconic figures within Loretta’s brutish portrayal.

Elsewhere on stage, the Dogs Vagina (Loretta’s backing band) harmonizes the spiky stage presence, and allows the audience to digest Loretta’s controversial character. The music (to Loretta’s horror) is actually enjoyable, balancing the satire of the show.

Edinburgh Fringe festival undoubtedly boasts a hectic timetable of performance, but the deliciously dark Loretta Maine can expect to perform deadly humour at its best.

Loretta Maine will be getting psychotically Bipolar at Just the Tonic at the Caves for the Edinburgh Festival nightly (see https://www.edfringe.com/whats-on/comedy/loretta-maine-bipolar for tickets) between the 2nd and the 26th August 2012, with a day off on the 14th to boil bunnies and read celeb magazines. However, you can also see her at the 99 Club Leicester Square with Holly Walsh, James Acaster and Brett Goldstein on the 26th July 2012 (tickets £12).
