Style took a big step into the future at London Fashion Week SS12 2011. There was a distinctly familiar, but otherworldly feel to the best of the shows making it one the best London Fashion Weeks of recent years and reconfirming the events dominance in fashion. Here are some of the most impressive highlights from the runway shows throughout the week (sorry about the ads):
David Coma SS12
Africana meets Blade Runner style in David Coma’s spring summer 2012 show. The aztec prints and African tribal embellishments overlaid on contemporary lines and monochrome hues make for some pretty cool designs.
Christopher Kane SS12
Traditional floral prints and British styles get a Tron-like twist with more old meets new sentiments in Christopher Kane SS12 at the London Fashion Week catwalk show. We’re big fans of the subdued shimmer and sheen skirts combined with cricket jumpers and stylish blouses.
Giles SS12
The eighties meet Black Swan and The Fifth Element in Giles’ spring/summer 2012 show. We’re not massively keen on some of the long tassels, but on the whole these are some of the most elegant designs at London Fashion Week SS12.
Pringle of Scotland SS12
Pringle gives knits the sexiest makeover of its life. You’ve got to love the split skirt, belted woolen dress, the wrap over styles and the sheer purity of the lines.
Amanda Wakely SS12
Slender, postmodern minimalism meets vivid colour segue in Amanda Wakely’s SS12 show. If it weren’t for the last minute transition into bright hues we’d be inclined to say that it was inspired by Jil Sander, but with the flashes of red and turquiose at the end it was more of an eclectic mix of inspiration.
Mulberry SS12
Mulberry takes futurism on a wild ride in their London Fashion Week runway tryst. It’s full of colour, fun and whimsy, but still stylish enough to be cool too.
Burberry Prorsum SS12
Hypnotic safari beats underly the look and feel of the modern lines of Burberry Prorsum SS12. They’re a fashion house that don’t seem to be able to put a foot wrong and their spring/summer 2012 catwalk show is genuinely sublime with incredible attention to detail, unique style and ruched flare. Awesome coats as ever.
Paul Smith SS12
Paul Smith SS12 is ice with the help of pop art, Nico and All Tomorrows Parties. Great women’s suits, sheer fabrics trends and slender lines. Again, colour flashes help to punctuate the show, changing the nature of the attention and highlighting the quality of some of the less overt designs.
Other notable shows at London Fashion Week SS12 include Louise Gray and Aquascutum, both of which are well worth checking out for yourself.
