If you’ve just watched the latest episode of the Disney+ show and made it through the credits, you might be wondering what the credits song is. Loki Season 2 Episode 2 closed out on the reveal that Silvie has He Who Remains’ timeline control device before breaking into the credits with the song.
It’s a classic Janis Joplin track called Kosmic Blues and you can listen to it in full with the video below. It was recorded in June 1969, which hints at the timeline for Loki Season 2 Episode 2, “Breaking Brad”, which is a pun on the Bryan Cranston crime drama with a very similar name.

More details about the Loki Season 2 Episode 2 credits song
The song was recorded for Joplin’s 1969 album, I Got Dem ‘Ol Kozmic Blues Again Mama! It starts out quietly with psychedelic notes puncturing the blues rock tapestry of the song, but doesn’t take long before the power of her voice kicks in.
AdvertisementEverything builds to the “It don’t make no difference babe” lyrics of the chorus before dropping back to the quieter lull. The song seems to be an ode to wrongs in love and resilience in the face of a difficult relationship.
However, the track came just after Janis Joplin parted ways with Big Brother and the Holding Company, which is the likely life source for the lyrics. It seems to have similar tones to Bob Dylan’s Most Likely You Go Your Way (And I Go Mine), btu maybe we’re reading too much into it.
Big Brother and the Holding Company guitarist, Sam Andrews, also left the band around the same time to join Joplin in her new direction and form Kozmic Blues Band. However, he returned to Holding Company after just nine months and Joplin went fully solo, so clearly things were complicated.
It mirrors the plot for Loki Season 2 with the strained relationship between the trickster gods. Silvie has decided to start a new life for herself at a McDonalds in middle America, leaving her previous life and relationship with Loki behind her, so the parallels are pretty big.
AdvertisementStrangely, Kosmic Blues only made it to number 41 in the US Billboard 100 chart, which is nuts considering her last album with BB&tHC, Cheap Thrills, landed at #1 in the album charts. It’s good to see it getting the attention it deserves, even if it is 54 years late.
More Janis Joplin songs to check out
If you liked the song during the credits of Loki Season 2 Episode 2 then you might want to check out more of Janis Joplin’s best songs. One of her best known tracks is Piece of My Heart, which she recorded with Big Brother and the Holding Company, which is the first song in the compilation video below:
It gives you 20 of the best Janis Joplin songs, so you can go on a mini tour of her work. It also includes the song from the Loki, “Breaking Brad” episode. Things then transition into the quieter acoustic track, Me & Bobby McGee, which is a cover of the Kris Kristofferson song.
It’s a mix of cover tracks, like Summertime, which was originally from Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin, Big Brother and the Holding Company songs like Bye, Bye, Baby and solo tracks like Mercedes Benz. Kozmic Blues is definitely a highlight, and it’s inclusion in the Disney+ show capped off an interesting episode.
It follows up on the song from Episode 1 of Loki Season 2, which was the Rob Orbison track, Dream Baby. It looks like we’re going to get some great music throughout the rest of the season, so we’re looking forward to hearing the next song on the hit list.
