Newcomers to the rock block, La Bête Blooms, release Stay Away, the final single from their debut self-titled EP, as a free download back in January 2015 and with another UK tour in April 2015 it’s only a matter of time before they wrap things together in their first full studio album. With a whole lot of love from BBC 6 Music for their previous tracks, Stay Away has helped to establish the five-piece band a little more as a contender to help build a resurgence in the UK rock scene.
The single was released on Monday the 26th January 2015 as a free download from the website of their record company, Adult Teeth, which is pretty keen to show off their recent signing. You can also take a listen to the Sound Cloud stream of the track below to decide whether or not you’ll be making a play for the free download, but it’s one that we’ll be tuning in for to boost out the heavier side of our playlist mix.
The song itself is a rising wall of guitar feedback and distortion, super-primed bass notes and rapid fire drum action that fuels sheer attack of the track. The wailing and ringing riff that flicks on like a spotlight in the dark in patches throughout the song is a big part of what makes it work as hard as it does and they’re added to by the punk-rock vocals of lead singer, the bearded behemoth that is Daniel Mawer.
It builds on the band’s earlier releases from their deft titled EP, including their first single, TV Speak and Everyday’s The Same, both of which picked up a fair bit of music press attention towards the back end of 2014. When the single arrived, we expecting it to be just as successful as their previous releases and spur the band on to more new material before the year was out and that went on to be the case with Nothing Left But The Taste, which is due out in October 2015.
Obviously, if you’ve already got the EP, you’ll be pretty familiar with the building progression that lifts the short, sharp shot of a song through the gears. As it’s also already released on iTunes, you can buy it straight away if you don’t want to wait, but the prospect of the free download is definitely a good option if you want to give the Hull-based band a little airtime chance to seep into to you synapses.
The UK tour dates kicked off in April 2015, but we’re expecting more to come later in the year, so as soon we get all of the dates and venue details we’ll be updating here to make it easy for you to catch La Bête Blooms live this year. For now though, you should probably spin the stream of Stay Away one more time and get yourself set for the free downloads, which is available now, because this is a band that we’re only going to hear more from in the future and if their latest single is anything to go by, that can only be a good thing.
