It’s been a while since Chloë Grace Moretz shocked the world by dropping the C-bomb and dishing out general adze kicking as Hit-Girl, but the good news is that she’ll be returning to the role this summer in the sequel, Kick Ass 2. With Aaron Taylor-Johnson returning as Kick Ass and Jeff Wadlow taking up the directorial reigns from Matthew Vaughn, who’s moved over to be one of the film’s producers, it combines some of the old with something new to deliver the adaptation of the second Kick Ass comic series by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr.
This time around Dave Lizewski and Mindy Macready’s alter egos, Kick Ass (Taylor-Johnson) and Hit Girl (Moretz), are slightly bigger, more self assured and pretty focused on ripping the living shindigs out of the low life’s of New York. However, that’s not before Hit Girl attempts to give up her vigilante life, but with Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) returning stronger than ever with a massive gang under his new super villain guise, The Mother F*cker, everyone will need to get involved to keep the streets safe.
Luckily, for Hit Girl and Kick Ass there’s a whole new troop of vigilante volunteers to help them fight back, including Colonel Stars and Stripes, who you’d never guess is played by Jim Carey. There’s also Donald Faison (Scrubs) as Doctor Gravity on the side of good and Jon Leguizamo as Javier and Daniel Kaluuya (Black Mirror, Psychoville Series 2) joining the MFs gang of baddies as Black Death.
As well as all of the heroes and villains, Lyndsy Fonseca returns as Dave’s supportive girlfriend, Katie, although from the look of the trailer it doesn’t seem like she’ll be as much of a focus as she did in the original film.
Set for release on the 19th July 2013, around a month before its release in America, Kick Ass 2 looks like it’s going to be another hilarious take on the action hero movie genre.
Brad Pitt is also one of the film’s producers having done similar with the first movie. With his Plan B Entertainment production company he’s definitely started to get a little more into the privation side of the movie industry these days.
If you haven’t been keeping up to date with the comic books, the second series of Kick Ass was released in hardback last year (see https://www.tuppencemagazine.co.uk/kick-ass-2-comic-book-hardback-release-date/), and the spin off series, Hit Girl, was released in June 2012 too.
