Despite being referred to as a little round headed buffoon by Rick Gervais and having a deep seated love of Monster Munch, Karl Pilkington is about to get back into literary for with his latest hardback book release, The Moaning of Life: The Worldly Wisdom of Karl Pilkington. It probably won’t do much to quell Gervais and Stephen Merchant’s mickey taking comments, but for Pilkington lovers everywhere it’ll be the equivalent of Pride and Prejudice, War and Peace and Crime and Punishment combined.

The book is based on KP’s upcoming pseudo travel comedy of the same name (sans the colon trailing secondary title), which is due to air on Sky 1 HD in Autumn 2013. The Moaning of Life sees him going solo for the first time, shaking off the nit-picking shackles of Gervais and Merchant to forge his own negative route in the world.

With Karl turning 40 recently he’s apparently becoming increasingly contemplative, so he has decided to wander the world in an attempt to find himself or some higher moaning to everything. He’s setting his sights in the different cultures of the world to find out how they deal with life’s major milestones to help him fathom out his own increasing awareness of mortality.

It all sounds very high brow, and when you add to that his hope of using the experienced to help him plan out his remaining time on earth and contemplate the meaning if life, there’s an existentialist voyage of discovery at the heart of the hardback release and TV show. However, with Karl there’s inevitably going to be an equal or greater quotient of comedy involved too, bringing in his own style of silly humour, slapstick and irony to make the trip entertaining.

The Moaning of Life: The Worldly Wisdom of Karl Pilkington is due for release on hardback on the 26th September 2013. The book builds on Karl’s previous literary work, including the accompanying books to the Idiot Abroad series, as well his stand alone musings, The World of Karl Pilkington, Happyslapped by a Jellyfish and Karlology: What I’ve Learned So Far.

The Moaning of Life: The Worldly Wisdom of Karl Pilkington hardback synopsis:

‘I’ve been on the planet for forty years now and I’m still none the wiser as to what it’s all about really. I’ve never worried about life’s big questions. People at my age sit about pondering “why are we here?” The only time I ever asked myself that is when Suzanne booked us a surprise holiday to Lanzarote.’

Karl Pilkington is forty years old. He’s not married, he doesn’t have kids, and he’s got a job where he’s known as an ‘idiot’. It’s time for him to take stock and face up to life’s big question – what does it all mean? Karl is no stranger to travel, and now he’s off on a series of madcap adventures around the globe to find out how other cultures approach life’s big issues.

Travelling from far-flung tribes to high-tech cities, Karl encounters everything from a traditional Indian wedding to an ancient Tibetan sky burial, from a drive-through funeral in LA to a man who married a robot.

Have his experiences changed him? Find out in this hilarious new book where Karl shares his stories (and opinions) in his inimitable style.

Karl Pilkington is back on the road, and this times he’s on a journey of self-discovery…
