Jon Richardson has been the quiet comedy might that backs up the off-the-wall, slightly surreal ramblings of Sean Lock and the often over-the-line badmouthery of Jimmy Carr on 8 Out of 10 Cats for a while now. He’s a bank of funny anecdotes and commentary on his own straight-laced, but slightly perverted perception of life and his 2011 live show, It’s Not Me it’s You, went on tour throguhout Autumn, following on from a successdul stint at Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Being an apparently old and surly fellow at such a youthful age is pretty funny to watch and his geekish sensibleness is easily a match for David Mitchell. In all fairness, a conversation between David Mitchell and Jon Richardson would be class to see, but equally they may cancel eachother out in terms stoic charm and end up just sitting quietly with slippers, a nice blanket and the whole literary output of Charles Dickens to keep them entertained.
It’s Not Me it’s You may well have been undoubtedly mundane and everyday, maybe even hum-drum, but it was also pretty funny on the whole. Bringing together elements of his previous sell out show, Don’t Happy Be Worry, along with all new material, Jon Richardson’s live tour is turned out to be a pessimistic wonderland of serious comedic misanthropy. If you’ve never seen him on TV or at a live show, check out the video below of his stand-up efforts for Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow.
