Following on from its ridiculously impressive run on the big screen, the Joker DVD cover has been revealed to countdown the days to the home entertainment release. As you’d expect with the performance of the star of the show, the artwork is a face shot of the grim smiler himself.
It only shows half of his face and despite the heavily painted red lips across the Joker’s face he looks anything but happy in the shot. He doesn’t look angry, or sad, or deranged either. Instead, there’s a knowing eye peering out through the white and blue as though he’s just realised the power that he has.
AdvertisementThe film will be out a little too early for it to feature any Academy Award nods or wins that Joaquin Phoenix might go on to receive, so it’s pretty stark. However, we’re expecting it to get a minor re-design after the 91st entry in the award ceremony.
The current design has pretty big billing for the two big starts of the film, as you can see with the full Joker cover image below. This will undoubtedly be added to in Phoenix picks up the Best Actor Oscer for his efforts in the film.
AdvertisementThe artwork for the DVD cover is replicated for the Blu-ray too, with the only addition being the blue strip at the top of the front cover. It would have been cool to use one of the stairs scene images like the one used for the Joker Movie Twitter page.
Joker 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray steelbook cover
Things are a little different for the 4K Ultra HD version of the film though with a slightly different shot of the Joker being used. You can check it out below, but essentially it’s a similar half-face selection as with the DVD, but with a side on shot, a little more natural light and clearer skin tones for Phoenix in the title character.
There’s also going to be a UHD Joker Blu-ray Steelbook, but if we’re being brutally honest the artwork for it is the weakest of all formats, which is a shame. Again, you can check it out for yourself below.
AdvertisementIt’s just not a great shot, especially with the excess of white background. The angle is all wrong, which gives the image a confused perspective that fails to capture the essence of the Joker. It would have been better with same cover artwork as the DVD and standard Blu-ray, but the the Steelbook texture as differentiation.
The home entertainment release date is scheduled for the 10th February 2020 and you can read more about the film at https://www.tuppencemagazine.co.uk/joker-dvd-release-date-uk.
