ITV Rugby World Cup 2019 “World In Union” theme tune and trailer music “feels like I’m GOKU”

Japan 2019 World Cup Rugby coverage exclusively on ITV with GOKU theme tune

The 2019 Rugby World Cup is hotting up and with coverage once again returning exclusively to ITV they’ve thrown in a very cool theme tune and the intro trailer to the live coverage and highlights. The trailer song is a remix of the original, which makes the lyrics a little hard to catch, excepts for the lines “borracho, borracho, borracho” and “feels like I’m GOKU”. You can check out the song in full below and you can also re-watch the intro theme for Japan 2019 with the trailer below that and the coverage theme song, World In Union by the Ladysmith Black Mambazo.

The song itself is a minor remix of Jaden Smith’s GOKU, which was released as a single in 2018. It didn’t really get the attention that it deserved and didn’t chart in the US at the time. However, since its release it has gone on to gain more attention. The music video has had 10m views on YouTube following its use in an ESPN commercial for the start of the NBA 2018 season coverage, which you can see on the ESPN Twitter page.

It’s still a sleeper hit, though, especially in the UK where it isn’t massively well known unless you’re really up on your hip hop knowledge, which makes it perfect as the theme tune to the 2019 Rugby World Cup coverage on ITV. It’s also got a number of Japanese connections too, which adds to its selection credibility with the most obvious being the name of the song, GOKU, which is taken from the main baddy in the Japanese anime TV series, Dragon Ball Z.

In addition to the DBZ references, the video for the song, which you can check out below, was filmed in Tokyo with the bright neon lights of the city in the background. It also features some pretty epic animation to give Jaden Smith anime fighter style moves like he’s in a live action episode of Dragon Ball Z or a character from Street Fighter II. The music video was also put together by Japanese producer and CEO of Nion, Inc. Takayuki Moriya.

The links with Japan don’t quite end there. One of Jayden’s earliest film roles was as the lead role for The Karate Kid reboot with Jackie Chan. In all fairness, the film itself was set in China and featured Kung Fu instead of Karate (which makes no sense whatsoever in the context of the title), but the original Karate Kid movies were all Japanese-Okinawan Karate.

Jaden Smith’s GOKU music video

The music video above for GOKU features the full theme song used for the Japan 2019 Rugby World Cup, so you can check it out in its entirety. The mix is slightly altered in the trailer music below, with quieter lyrics to reduce the distraction from the story that is being told, but at least you can hear the lyrics properly with the video above. You can also follow Jaden Smith on YouTube to keep up with his latest tracks.

If you’re not up on your Spanish, “borracho, borracho, borracho” is like saying you’re drunk, drunk, drunk, and there’s bound to be a lot of that early morning in the UK when the 2019 Rugby World Cup rolls around.

Rugby World Cup 2019 theme tune and ITV animated intro trailer

The full intro trailer and “feel line I’m GOKU” feature for the Japan Rugby World Cup 2019 is a little over a minute long and does a good job of building the excitement for the tournament. The animation works well and it’s nice that the concept for the trailer has been put together with an attempt to inspire young players as well as the older Rugby Union fans.

The theme tune to the coverage is a small snippet taken from World In Union by Ladysmith Black Mambazo. You can listen to the full song above, which is well worth taking in in its entirety.
