iPhone 6 charger doesn’t stay in?

iPhone 6 charger doesn't stay inWith the release of the Dad’s Army Movie earlier this year, it’s worthwhile remembering Lance Corporal Jones’ immortal words, “don’t panic”, and that’s definitely the case if your iPhone 6 charger doesn’t stay in. The reason for this is that the solution to the problem, which we’ll take you through below, is ridiculously easy to follow, so if you were counting down the clock to your next upgrade or contemplating taking your phone in for a repair, you might want to adopt a suitably British stiff upper upper lip and give our fix a try first.

What to do if your iPhone 6 charger doesn’t stay in any more?

Apart from the quiet calm and resolve we alluded to earlier, what you really need to do is work out pretty quickly weather or not this is a simple problem that you can fix yourself or if it’s a bigger issue that will need more of a technical fix. To do this you’ll need a toothpick and your finest delicate jiggling skills!

The problem with the iPhone 6 is that charger dock and earphone jack seem to collect more fluff in them  than Santa’s belly button. It’s a weird issue that only seems to affect the iPhone 6, as we’ve tested our solution on the 5 and 5S only to get zero fluffing fluff of any real note. However, on the 6 it’s like the lint equivalent of the TARDIS in there.

To fix the problem and get your charger to go back to fitting your iPhone 6 properly again, all you need for the magic trick to work is to slightly blunt the toothpick on a hard surface and then use it to fish out any fluff that has collected at the bottom of the Firewire charger port and earphone jack. If you’re thinking that a bit of old fluff can’t possibly be the reason you can’t get your charger to dock easily, wait until you see how much you get out. In fact, please feel free to use the toothpick to fashion the little thatch into some form of fan art and post it to our social media channels if the fix solves the problem.

While we’ve tried a few other implements to fish out the detritus, a toothpick is definitely the best tool for the job. It’s not metal, so it won’t cause any damage and it’s got a good hooking capability, so the fluff flies out. Plus it’s narrow enough at the tip to make a clean sweep of things and get your iPhone 6 back to being the much-loved pocket rocket that it used to be.

What to do if the toothpick doesn’t fix your iPhone 6 charging problems?

If that doesn’t quite do the trick then you’re slightly snookered mate. However, below are a few things to try before taring your hair out:

  1. If you fished out a lot of fluff, but the charger still doesn’t stay in, then you might want to give the toothpick another go. You might be closer than you think to stripping it back to factory levels of de-fluffyness.
  2. Shine a torch into the charging socket to see if you can see anything else stuck in there. If radiologists have taught us anything, it’s that you’d be surprised what you can fit up there. If it’s something that you can comfortably dislodge with the toothpick then try to get it out. You can also check to see if any of the charger connection plates are damaged. If this is the case then you’ll need to get your iPhone 6 fixed by a professional.
  3. Try the charger in another iPhone 6 to make sure it’s not just a faulty charger you’ve got a problem with.
  4. You can also try a friend or family member’s charging cable to double check this.
  5. Lastly, you may need to take a long, hard look at yourself in the mirror and ask yourself honestly whether or not some of your recent shenanigans could have contributed to the problem with your iPhone 6 charger not staying in. If you’ve dropped your phone or exposed it to water, heat, zombie phlegm, nuclear radiation, gamma particles or My Little Pony poo then you’re probably to blame for the problem. In which case, you should probably do the honourable thing and put your iPhone 6 out of its misery (or again you can take it in to get fixed properly).
