We’ve been waiting for details about the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny UK release date for a while and the arrival of the trailer has set everything in motion like a giant boulder hurtling towards the screen. You can also find out everything we have on the story, cast, age rating certificate and runtime, to give you the rest of the clues.
In case you were wondering, obviously Harrison Ford (Bladerunner 2049) will be back as Indiana Jones and in all fairness to the octogenarian he still looks every bit the part. However Steven Spielberg has stepped aside on the directing front to give James Mangold the reigns, while he’s one of the executive producers, along with George Lucas.
Story
AdvertisementThe plot for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will see the hero of the archaeology world lacing up his boots and whip once again. As you can tell from the name of the film he’s probably on the hunt for some kind of mystical dial.
While the first three films all focused on real history, The Kingdom of the Chrystal Skull took the series in more fictional directions. We’re expecting that to be the case again for the fifth film with a fictional story for the origin of the Dial of Destiny.
AdvertisementHowever, you can see from the trailer that there will be a lot of real historical elements in the mix too, so it’s going to be interesting to see how it all comes together. As long as there are no aliens involved (or ridiculous human monkey swings for that matter) then it should nudge the franchise back on course.
Cast
The cast for Indiana Jones 5 includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Goodbye Christopher Robin) as Indie’s new treasure-hunting partner and goddaughter, in addition to Ford as the lead character. Mads Mikkelsen (Fantastic Beasts The Secrets of Dumbledore) will be fronting the Nazi contingent of the cast and Toby Jones (My Week With Marilyn) will be joining the action too.
AdvertisementThere aren’t many returning faces other than Harrison Ford, but he’ll have John Rheese-Davis back as Shallah following his efforts in Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade.

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny UK release date
As with Transformers Rise of the Beasts, the Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny UK release date is currently down for June 20th, 2023. It has also been scheduled to come out in North America on the same date, so that should mean we don’t have to avoid too many story spoilers over here in the UK.

There are exceptions to the rule, but in general the two markets usually release in cinemas on or around the same date, and that’s going to be the case for part 5 in the story of Indiana Jones. It means it’ll come out with very little new direct competition, and a good slot for summer blockbuster sales.
Spider-Man: Across the Multi-Verse and Transformer Rise of the Beasts are out at the start of the month, so they will only compete in a residual state, which should give Dial of Destiny a big chance of taking the number 1 spot in the UK and North America. It will then go on to face the might of Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 1 and the Barbie movie in July, but that gives it plenty of time to land well.
If everything goes according to plan and Indiana Jones 5 does hit the box office at the end of June then that should give it a UK DVD, Blu-ray and standard digital release date in mid-to-late September 2023.
Age rating certificate latest
The Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny UK age rating won’t be confirmed by the British Board of Film Classification until we get close to the release date. However, there’s a lot we can take from all of the other four films in the series, which were each given a 12 certificate with the exception of Raider of the Lost Ark, which was a PG.
AdvertisementIn North America, it’s equivalent to a PG-13 certification, so that should give you a ball park for the latest adventure. Expect a little action violence and the chance of a few minor scares scares along the way.
As usual, we’ll update you with more details on the age rating certificate as they’re confirmed.
Runtime
Similarly to the age rating, the runtime for Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny will be officially confirmed a little close to the release date. If you’re looking for more details beyond that, the last film clocked in at 2 hours and 2 minutes long, which is a good projection for the sequel.
Raiders of the Lost Ark was the shortest of them at 1 hour and 55 minutes, but there isn’t that much different in terms of length. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was the longest at 2 hours and 8 minutes, but there’s definitely an average of 2 hours to add to your solutions for the film.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny trailer
The trailer for Indiana Jones 5 landed on the 2nd December 2023 and it’s a good mix of nostalgia and new treats for old and new fans of the series. There are plenty of clues to dive into if you want to and more than a few Easter Eggs with the Millennium Falcon cockpit view being the biggest of them all.
You can see from the trailer that it’s set in the late 1960s and it looks like we’re going to have some leftover Nazi villains in the mix. There’s also a hint of the supernatural about it all, which is a return to story progression of the opening films in the series.
It’s also a pretty good sign that there will definitely be no aliens in Dial of Destiny… Unless, of course, Phoebe Waller-Bridge is secretly from Rigil and is planning to take over the world with the help of yet another obvious ET wannabe, Andrew Scott.
The second trailer was revealed at the Star Wars Celebration during the Lucasfilm Showcase, which you can see below. It features a whole lot more of Phoebe Waller Bridge as Indy’s goddaughter, along with Mads Mikkelsen as the villain of the film.
