How to get the Dark Light in Luigi's Mansion 2 HD

If you’ve been playing Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD for a little and you still haven’t got the Dark Light then you might be wondering how to get it. The Nintendo Switch version of the game brought the fun of the 3DS title to the latest generation of gamers and as the Luigi’s Mansion 3, the Dark Light is an integral part of beating the game.

With the Dark Light, you’re able to find hidden items scattered throughout the world, and with them you’re able to progress further in the game. However, Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD doesn’t give you the functionality straight away and you have to work a little before you get it, but it does show up at Gloomy Manor, so it isn’t too far in and you can find out how to land the device with the details below.

How to get the Dark Light

If you’ve got to the spider webs in Gloomy Manor and wondered whether or not it’s the Dark Light that you need to get past them, the short answer is no, it’s not. The two mysteries are completely separate and you need to take on different Professor E Gadd missions to solve them with the Spider Webs coming in A-5 and the Dark Light being the main element of A-4, Visual Tricks.

From this, you should be able to guess that you can only get the Dark Light when you take on the mission A-4 and there’s no way to get it any earlier. You can see the full Gloomy Manor walkthrough video below to see how to get up to A-4, as well as how to get the Dark Light in the mission, but essentially you start out in the entrance and have to make your way to the Lab.

As you might have noticed when you first went to the Lab to pick up the Strobulb, the Dark Light is charging in the corner, but you can’t get it until you get the go ahead from Professor E Gadd at the start of A-4. After you start in the mission, you head north from the Entrance using the double doors, go through the Guard’s Hall and the Foyer to get to the Common Hall.

The Lab is the first room on the left in case you’d forgotten the route from your last visit earlier in Gloomy Manor, but the door disappears as you approach it, so you’ll need an alternative way in. Obviously, this is from above, so head back to the Foyer and get to the second floor using the stairs, beating the ghosts that mob you on the way through.

When you get to the Master Hall you can take the first door on the left to get into the Parlor, which sits directly above the Lab and you’ll get a cut scene with the fire blowing out. You can then press X next to the fireplace to ride on down to the floor below where the Dark Light is waiting for you, but as ever with Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, things aren’t straight forward even when you get to the right location.

As you approach the Dark Light in the corner of the Lab, a Greenie in shades appears and runs off with it, flying into the writing board up on the wall. Us the Poltergust to spin it and the ghost will fly out. Use it again to yank off it’s shades before hitting it with the Strobulb and sucking it up to free the Dark Light for you to pick and use to complete the rest of Gloomy Manor with.

That should give you everything you need to get the Dark Light in Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD, but if you need to see it all in action you can check out the Gloomy Manor walkthrough video above. This will give you everything you need to 100% the first of the mansions, covering all of the missions, Gems and Boos throughout Gloomy Manor.
