Some of our suggestions are more extreme than others, so we’ll leave the crazy ideas for later on, but we wanted to give you every opportunity to maximise your film quota.
How to get cheap cinema tickets the easy way
Here’s our more right minded guide to getting cheap cinema tickets, so you should probably just stick to this section unless you want to seriously change your life for film. Don’t forget to check out our movie release dates to see which upcoming films you’re going to catch with your newfound money saving skills:
- By far the easiest way to get cheap cinema tickets is to find out which of your local cinemas has the cheapest tickets. There’s usually one that has rock bottom prices with Vue leading the way in terms of standard ticket prices, so just do a quick price comparison to find the cheapest. There’s also family tickets to look out for to help you save even more
- Obviously, the first tip in our how-to was just scratching the surface, but if you want to take it to the next level and you don’t mind waiting until Monday or Tuesday to see the latest big screen releases then Vue’s Super Days is a good options. You can find out more at www.myvue.com/offers/super-days, but in general you just need to activate a code and you can get even more of a discount on your cinema tickets
- Student/senior citizen discounts – if you’re lucky enough to be a student, or you’re basking in the chilled out glow of retirement then you’ll also be able to get reduced cinema ticket prices. If you’re really desperate for cheap cinema tickets then you could always go back to being a student, which will also give you an opportunity to reconnect with your lost youth once again
- 2-4-1 cinema tickets – Meerkat Movies is the latest deal to get 2-4-1 cinema tickets. You should be able to hook yourself up, either with your own or through a friend that’s looking to be your Sergei, by just being a customer of comparethemarket.com. You can find out more about Meerkat Movies at www.odeon.co.uk/meerkatmovies/, but the offer also works at Cineworld an Vue cinemas
- Cineworld Unlimited – OK, so this one won’t necessarily help you save money every month, but it does present a good opportunity to get more films for less overall if you’re an avid cinema goer. It’s £17.40 per month, so if you can squeeze in two films a week that will work out as just £2 per film
How to get cheap cinema tickets the hard way
Here’s where you test your cinefile resolve, so if you really, really, really ruddy woody well love cinema then this section could be the one for you:
- If you really want to maximise your money to movie mojo then you can always get a job at your local cinema, which will essentially mean you get paid to watch films. Admittedly, you’ll have to watch the same film a fair few times and you’ll need to , but the hot dog and pin ‘n’ mix perks are brilliant
- If the drawbacks of working at a cinema are just too much for you to bear, there are other alternatives, but you will need to take an even more significant career change to make them work. The first of these is to get a job reviewing films. The problem is that movie critics are ten-a-penny these days, so you’ll need to up your game to land a paid reviewer job
- Get a job rating movies for the BBFC – again, this isn’t an easy one to pull off, but if you can wangle your way onto the age rating team at the British Board Of Film Classification then you’ll be green lit to movie heaven, and again you’ll get paid for the privilege
- Becoming a big screen movie icon of film director is probably our most ridiculous route to getting cinema tickets on the cheap. Admittedly, it’s not an easy ask, but like Del Boy says, he who tries wins
- Open your own cinema – this might sound a little crazy, but it’s probably a little easier than some of the other suggestions in our hard way list. The BFI has got plenty of info about starting a community cinema and while it takes a lot of effort and can be costly in the short term, if you can make it work then your cinema tickets will eventually be free and you’ll have your own film club to boot
