If you’ve seen the monster boss in the trailer, but haven’t taken it on in the game then you might be wondering how to fight the Rancor in Star Wars Jedi Survivor. It’s inspired by the classic fight for survival that Luke had with the Rancor in Star Wars Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi and it’s definitely worth taking on.
The good news is that it’s relatively easy to find, but you will need to go exploring to stumble upon it deep underground. However, it’s one of Star Wars Jedi Survivor’s optional bosses, so it’s also possible to play through the entire story campaign and not get to fight the boss.

How to start the Rancor fight?
You can find the Rancor in Koboh in one of the unexplored sections of the map, but you’ll need to progress in Star Wars Jedi Survivor to be able to get to it. It isn’t an area you will go to naturally as part of the campaign, so you will need to explore a little and you’ll need certain abilities to get to its location.
To find the Rancor, start out from the Rambler’s Reach Outpost meditation point and head up the climbing spot net to it. You’re aiming for the doorway just at the top of the cliff, which you can see in the image above and this will lead to a pipe climb down into the depths of Koboh.
AdvertisementIf you’re not too sure where you’re aiming for you can see the location for the entrance on the map below. Jump up to the pipe that takes you down and then drop and follow the slow further into the cave system.
You’ll need to use Force Push on the rubble blocking the door, but you should have that by the time that you get to Koboh. When you get in, you’ll see that it’s called Sodden Grotto and Cal talks about the smell, so you should know that you’re in the right place.
Head to the left and there’s another barrier to push out of the way and this will take you into a dark patch with an enemy to jump out at you. Finish it off and cut through the pipes to get to the next section and here’s where you’ll need abilities that you unlock a little later in Star Wars Jedi Survivor.

There’s a big drop below and you’ll need either wall run or Force rush, which you get when you complete Pilgrim’s Sanctuary mission on Jedha. You can see that mission in the video below for reference, but with either of these abilities you should be able to make it across to the other side.
From there, head down the ramp and use Force push again to make a bridge over to the other side. Jump across and follow the route around and you’ll have pipes on the left and right to cut down.
They both ultimately lead to the route with the one on the left giving you a big jump and the one to the right giving you a narrow gap to squeeze through. There’s a runaway droid that’s got a Priorite Shard and a few enemies along the way, but when you get to the bottom, continue on towards the lit path ahead, which you need to jump over to.
It’s got a waterfall next to it and mushrooms growing on it, so look out for these if you get a bit turned around. Squeeze through the gap at the end and follow it around to the right. You’ll have a shortcut way to slice with BD-1 and a Meditation Point down the corridor, so make sure to do both of these before you start the Rancor boss fight.
The way that things work in Star Wars Jedi Survivor is that you’ll get sent to your last Meditation Point if you die, so if you don’t interact with the one here you’ll have to make your way back down again if the Rancor eats you. It’s got a one shot move, which is easy to get caught with, so it’s better to be ready.

How to beat the Rancor
We found that the Double Blade worked the best against the Rancor in Star Wars Jedi Survivor, because it has great mobility and does multiple hits in quick succession. The Vortext Drive is great for closing the distance when you need to and the reality is that you need to give the Rancor a lot of distance.

Dodge or jump it’s red ground pound and you can block or parry its swinging arms. After it’s done a big attack it will give you a chance to get in to do some damage, so take your opportunities.
As mentioned above, the Vortext Drive is a good option and the Rising Storm move is a good way to start your combos against it if you’re close enough. Just try not to do too many and be ready to block and parry it’s upper cut attacks.
AdvertisementYou can also block or parry its downward swipe attacks, and then again do as much damage as feels right. Get back to distance again and repeat the process. Jump it’s foot stomp expanding impact move and be ready to evade its red grab attack.
This is a finishing move for the Rancor, so if he does catch you then he just eats you straight away and you’ll need to start the boss fight all over again. Move back and to the side and use evade get nip out of the way as it’s coming in for the grab.
If you can master this last bit then you should be fine to make it through the scrap. Use slow motion if you want to help out with things at any point, but it’s more satisfying to do it without this.
