Hot Chip Oxjam 2012 Manchester and Glasgow DJ takeovers

Hot ChipHot Chip’s Vinyl Emporium DJ takeovers are coming to Manchester and Glasgow this weekend to celebrate Oxjam 2012. In addition to the band + friends spinning out their own music choices with DJ sets, they’ll also be playing specially recommended records and flogging some of their own vinyl that they’ll be donating to the stores.

The two free afternoon DJ events come on the back of last week’s Hot Chip Vinyl Emporium party in London, which launched the Oxjam music festival for 2012. Part of the month long, nationwide music festival, the first of the sets takes place at the Byres Road Oxfam shop in Glasgow on Friday 12th October, combining in with Hot Chip’s 2012 gig dates, following it up with a set at the Manchester Oxfam Emporium shop, Oldham Street on Saturday 13th October.

The takeovers will go on during lunch (dinner time if you’re from anywhere north of Coventry), but it won’t necessarily be easy to make it in, so you might want to come up with a cunning plan. Our recommendation is to get there early with a flask of white Bovril (beef tea with a shot of vodka) and a waterproof parka just in case you have to wait outside for a bit.

The Oxjam festival will be running all the way through October at 800+ venues, with 9,000 volunteers, 7,000 musicians and an overall capavity for an audience in the region of 150,000, so there’s lots more opportunities to see great music up close and personal. It also gives you a chance to give something back. The event aims to raise at least £350,000 for Oxfam’s work, plus it’s a great reminder of the brilliance of charity stores.
