It doesn’t take too long to make your way through to the final boss fight in the Horizon Forbidden West DLC, but it’s east to get stuck on how to overheat the Horus and finish off Londra. Getting to a decent level is definitely a part of it, but with the tips in our guide below you should be able to finish it off in a pinch too.
Obviously, it’s impossible to put together a final boss guide without talking about the Burning Shores ending, so if you don’t want any spoilers, now’s your time to stop reading. However, we’re expecting most gamers will be here because they’ve already made it to the end and are finding it tougher than expected.
AdvertisementThe difficulty level of everything that comes before the last battle is much lower than the double-header that you get in the final boss fight. It’s easy to find yourself in the thick of things and be under-powered, so we’ve put together a section for you at the end of the guide.

How to overheat the Horus in the Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores final boss fight
The final boss in the Horizon Forbidden West Burnign Shores DLC is the culmination of the Walter Londra story. He’s a breakaway Zenith with all of their powers, ego and future-tech knowledge and intelligence is ace up the sleeve is the Horus that we’ve all been expecting.
This is where the fight picks up and you’ll begin by chasing the Horus down the Hollywood hills to a series of beached islands out in the water. Your job is to overheat the big beats by shooting out its heat sinks in a series of fights on the beaches.
AdvertisementThe first of these can be found on its abdomen, but the trick is to use it’s trailing legs for cover whenever it shoots rockets down at you. Remember to use your Valor Surge boosts throughout the fight with Ranged Master being a good one to add some extra firepower to your hits.
Use your highest impact damage bow and arrow combination to give this the biggest impact and you should be able to make it through phase one. You can see the whole fight against the Horus with the video below to see some of these tips in action.
After phase 1 it will let out a huge electromagnetic shock-wave and the best thing to do is to put as much distance between you and the Horus as possible. Get far away, wait for the electric dust to settle and then head back in for phase 2.
There will be a couple of Corruptors to fight if you want to, but you can just ignore them and get in to scan the second heat sink with your Focus. Once you do that, you’ll need to climb one of its big legs to make it to the top and use your spear to smash the cooling device and get one step closer to overheat the Horus.
AdvertisementYou can see where this is in the video at 7:24, but it’s got yellow lines and fire and electricity on it so easy to find. Avoid the rail gun shots from Londra in the Horus and jump up to start the clime, timing your jumps to miss out on getting shocked or singed.
Press X twice looking at the heat sink and you’ll grapple over to do your damage. This will see you landing and chasing the Horus to start Phase 3 of the final boss fight, where you’ll need to shoot out the heat sink on its side. With a Range Master Valor Surge you can do a lot of damage fast to whittle through this one fast.

You’ll have another electric blast to avoid, but after this the Horus will head further out and the next section is tough. It surrounds you with its arms and uses the rest of it’s tentacles to pummel you.
You can run to avoid it’s smash down attacks and doing a similar thing close to its body will help you dodge roll away from the strikes up from under the sand. Zigzag runs forward will avoid the rail-gun attacks, miss-directional dodge rolls will help you to get out of the way of the rockets and just get away from its laser-guided marks on the sand when these come in.
AdvertisementAfter each attack, try to get in as much damage on the heat sinks on its arms. When you build up enough charge use your Valor Surge and the Specter Gauntlet is a good weapon for destroying these to overheat the Horus. You can see this section at the 11 minute mark in the video, but you might need to cycle through your health revives to stay in the action.
Once you defeat all four of the heat sinks, you have to face it head on, and you might be better off switching back to your highest power impact bow and arrow combination to get the two targets. A Valor Surge will help you to make shorter work of this section, but you definitely need to keep moving to avoid its volley of attacks.

This section is all about hit and move and while the Gauntlet isn’t the best option in terms of accuracy and impact in hindsight, the movement to avoid the Horus in the video should help you out. You can pick up the action for this phase of the battle at 22:42. Keep up the damage and that will see you defeat the Horus to set things up for the final showdown of the boss fight with Walter Londra inside.
How to beat Walter Londra
The fight with Walter Londra is easier than the final stages of the Horus once you have the method down pat. Start by shooting out the energy couplings one by one with your most powerful bow and impact arrow combination.
AdvertisementYou’ll need to jump the electric surges and get off the oven floor when the flames starts to come up, but it’s an easy one to accomplish. You can see the whole boss fight with Walter Londra in the video below.
A couple of distributors will rise up from the floor and you just need to use R1 to cut the power to each of them. He’ll then go into the final phase where you’ll need to time your arrow hits after each of his electric wave attacks. Jump, go into slow motion and shoot out one of the inner couplings, cycle, rinse, repeat and you’ll defeat him.
You need to shoot out the energy orbs when they come for you, so you might want to change to your normal arrows for these. However, remember to transition back to your strongest arrows for your shots at the energy couplings attached to Londra to do more damage and you can crank this up with the Valor Surge again.
Avoid the fire floor and pick up the health if you need it, but you can make it through a lot of this without getting hit. It’ll get slightly more challenging for the last couple of attacks, but once you take out the last energy coupling you’ll bring Walter Londra down for an R2 spear move to finish him off.
What to do if you’re too under-powered for the final boss?
AdvertisementIf you’re on a lower difficulty level than hard you probably won’t have this problem, but it’s definitely possible to make it to the final boss fight in Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores at a level and gear upgrade point that will make it very difficult to defeat it. The Horus is the biggest challenge, because its attacks are tougher to avoid and do way more damage than Walter Londra inside.
The mission has a recommended level of 50, so that’s a good guide, but you can overheat the Horus a few levels down from that using the method above. This will need good armor though with upgrades to help you to get over the line.

If you don’t have enough of this then you might get into trouble, even with the tips above in the guide, so if you keep getting destroyed then you’ve got a couple options to help you overheat the metal devil. The first of these is to change your skills tree to be more defensive with the shield Valor Surge to help to keep you going.
However, if you find you’re getting chewed up even with this then you might want to think about going back to an earlier save point. You should have one before the mission. Go back, level up and upgrade your gear before taking on the final boss fight again and you’ll be in a better situation.
