Alfred Hitchcock produced some of the greatest films of the last century, and now he’s got some of cinema’s heavyweights to bring the story of his life to the big-screen. With its recent release and London Premier (23rd November 2012), the film looks like it might be a lot less dry than you might have thought, especially if Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirrens beaming grins at the premier are anything to go by.
The Academy Award winners play Alfred Hitchcock and his wife Alma Reville around the time of the filming of Psycho. Hopkins is unrecognisable as the rotund director, having donned a significantly sized padded suit, face mask and well practiced accent to pull off the difficult role in great style. They’re both joined by the sultry might of Scarlet Johansson, who plays Janet Leigh as she takes to her short and memorable performance in Psycho.
Hitchcock also stars Jessica Biel (Total Recall 2012) as Vera Miles, who starred with Leigh on the film; as well as Karate Kid himself, Ralph Macchio, as Joseph Stephano, who adapted the Robert Bloch novel for the making of the movie.
Macchio looks like he’s become a pretty serious actor all of a sudden, so hopefully the film means he’ll get more credible roles in the future. In case you’re wondering what he looks like these days, there’s a picture of him at the London Premier below. However, don’t expect to recognise him too easily in Hitchcock, as he’s done almost as good a job as Hopkins in his transformation into the screenwriter.
Hitchcock is based on the non-fiction book, Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho, by Stephen Rebello. It’s in cinemas nationwide at the moment and there are more pictures from the film below:
