Haunted Mansion (2023) UK release date, age rating latest and more

Haunted Mansion (2023) UK release date, age rating latest

It’s been twenty years since we last saw Disney get so spooky, so here’s the Haunted Mansion (2023) UK release date and age rating latest to give you something creepy to aim for. The trailer looks impressive with a strong cast, classic family comes to a haunted mansion story and gnarly special effects, so it’s one for the calendar.

The last time around, Haunted Mansion came out with Eddie Murphy heading up the cast, but this time it’s Rosario Dawson. She’s been busy starring as Ahsoka Tano on Disney Plus in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett and with her own Ahsoka TV show coming to the platform this year she’s got a busy 2023.

Plot

A single mum (Dawson) and her young son move to a huge, creepy old house early on in the Haunted Mansion (2013) story. It doesn’t take too long before things start to go bump in the night, just after breakfast and on lonely walks down The Shining-like corridors.

In a bid to tackle the problem head on, the mother and son duo enlist the help of a group of supposed ghost experts. You can see from the trailer that they’re ill-prepared for everything that the old mansion and its resident ghouls have got to throw at them.

Cast

In addition to Rosario Dawson leading the cast for Haunted Mansion (2023) as the mum of the house, the film also stars Owen Wilson (Loki, The French Dispatch) as the priest trying to fix things. He’s joined by LaKeith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton, Get Out, Knives Out), who he’s hired to help him in the task, along with Tiffany Haddish (The Secret Life of Pets 2) as a psychic.

Danny DeVito (Batman Returns, Jumangi The Next Level) looks like he might be the history books buff, but with a little spiritual power of his own. And Jared Leto (Morbius, Blade Runner 2049) stars as the Hatbox Ghost, which appears to be a CGI role if the trailer below is anything to go by.

The cast also includes Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything, Everywhere, All At Once) and Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek, Sex Education). The kid of the haunted mansion is played by newcomer, Chase W. Dillon.

Haunted Mansion (2023) UK release date

As things stand, there is no official Haunted Mansion (2023) UK release date as such, but we do know that it’s set to come out in North America on July 28th, 2023. There is often a little variation between the two locations, but it’s possible that we might get to see the film in Britain on the same date as in the US.

There aren’t any other big films out on the same weekend in the UK, so it definitely makes sense from a timing point of view. The Barbie movie has a release date a week earlier, and then there’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem arriving the week later.

With the other dates covered by relatively big films, it seems to be the best time to put out Haunted Mantion (2023) in the UK too. We’ll keep you posted on the latest from British cinema chains, but we’re expecting it to be the end of July.

If we’re being honest, it would probably work better with a Halloween release on both sides of the Atlantic, but then there’s home media to consider. Arriving in July means that it will be available on digital early access from the likes of Amazon Prime Video, Google Play and the Microsoft Store for both the UK and US around Halloween in the very least.

It’s probably a bit too early for the DVD, Blu-ray and standard digital release date for either market to take place ahead of Halloween. The US market is a maybe, but here in the UK it’s likely to be more like November, so in time for Christmas.

The 2023 remake of Haunted Mansion should also get a release on Disney Plus, but the timing for this will probably be contingent on the success of the film. For example, Avatar 2, the biggest film in the last 12 months, came out in cinemas in December 2022 and it still isn’t available on Disney+.

UK and North America age rating and parents guide

The Haunted Mansion (2023) age rating for the UK and North America won’t be confirmed until we get an official release date, but there’s a lot to go on from the trailer and the previous film. The Eddie Murphy film picked up a PG certificate in the UK and it was a similar story in the US.

However, things look a bit more intense in the trailer for the remake. It could still pick up a PG age rating, but there’s also a chance of it coming out as a 12 with a little more realism to the special effects than the last time around.

It’s still a comedy and a Disney film, and most of its live action remakes like The Lion King and Aladdin all picked up PGs, so that’s still a contender here. Parents guide notes for the 2003 film included mild language and scary scenes and the latter appear to be the main consideration for the 2023 film.

Runtime

The Haunted Mansion (2023) runtime is similar to the age rating in that it will probably be confirmed a little closer to the release date. Disney films aren’t known for being massively long, unless you’re looking at Marvel Cinematic Universe movies like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 or Avatar 2.

The previous incarnation of the film was just 1 hour and 24 minutes long, which is about as short of films get really. We’re not expecting the Rosario Dawson film to be quite that tight, but between 1.5 and 2 hours is a good estimate.

It’s not the only Disney live action film out this year, though, with The Little Mermaid (2023) due out in May and it’s set to be a long one at 2 hours and 15 minutes. It’s possible that The Haunted Mansion could go a similar way, but sub 2 hours is still our best call.

Trailer

The trailer for Haunted Mansion 2023 has got a lot going for it, so it should be one to catch on the big screen if you like a few scares with your Disney family comedy fun. Although, it’s definitely one for the older family members with the age rating notes above.

The special effects, set design and costumes are very strong and the story is pretty hard to get wrong. The other big thing that it’s got going for it is a well selected cast list, which adds to the potential of the film.

Rosario Dawson comes across well, which adds to the excitement over the Ahsoka TV show that will be coming to Disney Plus in August. It’s a similar story for Owen Wilson who will also be returning to Disney+ later this year in Loki Season 2. Add in Danny DeVito, Dan Levy and Jamie Lee Curtis and you’ve got the makings of a modern classic from the Mouse House.

We’ll update you with more details on the film, including the age rating and runtime, as they’re confirmed. You can also check out our movie news section to keep up with the latest upcoming films, or visit the official Haunted Mansion (2023) webpage at https://movies.disney.com/haunted-mansion.
