Gotham Knights Villains

With the recent arrival of the Gamescon trailer, we’ve got a decent list of Gotham Knights villains to take you through. Some of them have been in the mix right from the very beginning, but there are a couple of cool new additions that hint at a bigger potential rogues gallery than we first thought.

Gotham Knights Villains Harley Quinn

We’ll start by taking you through the villains that have been fully confirmed and revealed to give you a good idea about what to expect for sure. We’ll then follow it up with what this could all mean for the rest of the Gotham maniacs that could well show up in the game.

The city in Gotham Knights looks huge and the Court of Owls plot seems sweeping in its scale, which gives Gotham Knights a lot of scope to introduce even more villains. It’s going to be interesting to see who the final boss is at the end of it all. We’re expecting this to also be the main villain, but with the Owls in the mix it could be one of their ultra Talons.

Confirmed Gotham Knights villains

Mr. Freeze

Gotham Knights Villains Mr Freeze

Mr. Freeze was the first named villain to be revealed for Gotham Knights, featuring in the world premier reveal back in August 2020. He appears to play a role in the plot that is separate to the main villain, which seems to focus on the Court of Owls. It’s possible that he’s a pawn in their plans somehow, either unwittingly or through some kind of alliance, but he tends to work alone.

Mr. Freeze’s alter ego is Victor Fries was a talented cryogenicist, who becomes the supervillain when plans to preserve his dying love Nora are messed up. The accident results in her death and his body is cooled to below freezing causing him to need his trademark suit to keep him alive.

Talons

You can also see a host of Talons in the world premier video. These are the highly trained assassins that the Court of Owls use to do their dirty work. There’s a long list of them from the comic books, but it looks like the game is going to take an even wider view for them in the story.

The Talons appear to be kept in a huge facility with cryogenic hanging crypts (hinting at a link to Mr Freeze), so there’s clearly going to be a lot of them to face. You can see a lot of goons wearing owl masks in the videos, but these are just low level henchmen working for the Court of Owls. You can also see snippets of the Owls themselves, which we’ll cover below, but the Talons are the fully suited assassins with the glowing eyes.

The Court of Owls

The Court of Owls are the super rich elite of Gotham who use their wealth and power to control all aspects of society. There are a lot of members from the comic books, so we’ll have to wait to see which ones feature in the game. There are 16 seats at their table in the story trailer..

The Court is usually presided over by a Grandmaster, and we’re expecting that to be the case in Gotham Knights. Sebastian Clark and John Wycliffe are the most likely contenders for the main villain, but things might not be exactly as they seem.

The Court and its Talons are a fairly new addition to the Batman franchise with their introduction in 2011, so they aren’t as well known as other villains. However, the game should propel them into the mainstream a little more, giving its members a chance to shine as the big bads that they are.

The Penguin

The Penguin was revealed in 2021 in the Court of Owls story trailer and he looks a little more like the Colin Farrel interpretation of the Oswald Cobblepot in The Batman. He seems pretty intimidated by the Court, so either he’s in their pocket, on their hit list or playing the sideline waiting to see how things land when the dust settles.

Hopefully he grows as a character during Gotham Knights and gets a bit closer to the super-villain that we’re used to. The character dates back to 1941, so he’s got a long history with Batman to build on. His various umbrellas of destruction have been pretty cool over the years, so if he does go on to be a boss it could be a big part of the action.

Clayface

The shambling pile of slip was revealed recently in the Gamescon villains trailer. There have been a lot of different people that take on the part of the villains that have been called Clayface in the comics, so we’ll know more about which one it is for sure when the Gotham Knights release date comes around.

During the villains trailer, he talks about a premier, referring to a film, which would link him to Basil Karlo, the original Clayface in the comics. He’s an actor that gets replaced and sets out on a path of revenge. However, his abilities are more akin to the more super-powered versions of Clayface that have become the norm.

The fact that we see the Gotham Knights reviewing a DNA strand means that the villain might also be able to change his appearance to anyone else, so it could be a lot of fun in terms of the story. In the comics, he was able to match the DNA of Superman, making him almost unstoppable except for the whole Kryptonite thing.

Harley Quinn

Harley Quinn was also revealed in the Gamescon villains trailer and she looks like she might be working solo. We’ll talk about the possibility of The Joker being introduced in the section below, but in the trailer is seems like she’s got her own plans.

It doesn’t look like she’s working with or for the Court of Owls, but their paths are bound to cross, so her arc of the story is going to be a potential show stopper. With the added popularity that Margot Robbie has brought to the character in films like Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad, she’s a big draw for the game.

Other Gotham Knights villains

In addition to the confirmed Gotham Knights villains above, there’s also the potential for a host of others to feature in the game. The counter argument to this is the fact that Warner Bros. Games has released a villains trailer, which sets out the rogues gallery that you’ll face.

However, it’s possible that there will be at least a few surprises along the way, so here are our best theories. They’re obviously unconfirmed, but could be pretty close to the mark, so don’t go on if you don’t want to find out about potential spoilers.

First up there’s the fact that Harley Quinn is in the list, which is a sure bet that The Joker will be somewhere. Our bet is that Batman locked him away in some maximum security facility before the explosion that took him out of the equation, so her story might be that she’s on a mission to break him out.

If that’s the case then we might only see a freed Joker towards the end of it all, which would tee things up quite nicely for a sequel to the game if it lands well. However, this could take place earlier in the game and give us the mad clown as one of the bosses that we face. The former seems the most likely though.

The Talons are the next big target in terms of more potential Gotham Knights villains. The biggest of these would be Batman himself. We know that he was supposedly killed in an explosion, but it’s possible that this was a setup to trap him and convert him into a Talon.

There’s a Dark Knight-like Talon in the trailers, so either this is a dream, some kind of weird flashback, a totally different character or it the Bat back from the dead and brainwashed into fighting on the side of the Owls as its new best assassin.
