If you’ve seen the trailer and need to know everything about the Ghostbusters Frozen Empire UK age rating and release date, we’ve got you covered (not in mood slime, so, you’re welcome). We’ll also take you through the story, cast, runtime and throw in the latest trailer with all streams crossed for an epic sequel to Ghostbusters Afterlife.
If you can’t hear the series name without imagining Janine’s nasal voice from the original film then you’re probably as excited as us for the return of the franchise to New York. It was heavily teased at the end of Afterlife and now it’s on its way, but you can read more about the plot in the section underneath the age rating latest.

Ghostbusters Frozen Empire UK age rating latest
The official age rating for Ghostbusters Frozen Empire in the UK will be confirmed by the BBFC as we get a little closer to the release date (read more below). However, there’s plenty to take from the certification from the previous films in the series, as well as the trailer.
Ghostbusters Afterlife came out with an age rating of 12A in the UK and PG-13 in North America, which is a very strong indicator for Frozen Empire in both territories. The 2016 reboot was a 12 in the UK too and then the very first film in the series back in 1984 similar. The only blip was Ghostbusters II, which came out as a PG, but we’re pretty sure that’s not going to be the case with the 2024 film.
If you look at the trailer below, it’s fair to say that there’s probably going to be similar levels of moderate threat and mild horror as in Afterlife. Short of the villain eating Pete’s face with a nice Chianti or Ray rekindling his ghostly romance in a big way, the Ghostbusters Frozen Empire age rating has got 12A written all over it.

Release date
The Ghostbusters Frozen Empire UK release date is expected to be the same as in the US where it has been slated for March 29th, 2024 by AMC Theatres. However, that’s Good Friday and we’ve seen a lot of films come out in the UK a little earlier in the week, so it could be as early as Wednesday, March 27th.
As ever, we’ll update you with more details on the release in the run-up to the date, so don’t forget to bookmark the page if you’re a big Ghostbusters fan. There’s very little chance that the date will be pushed back at this late a stage and with the trailer in we know it’s on course for Easter 2024.
Story
Having saved the town of Summerville Oaklahoma from the might of Goza the Gozarian, the Spengler family decide to return to New York City. Teaming up with the original Ghostbusters once again, they move into the old fire station from the first two movies and set up shop as the resurgent experts in the “ghostly goings on” department (note, that’s not an official department, by the way).
The OG Busters have been working hard on some next-level ghost catching tech. However, the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashed a brand new demonic evil onto the world that could well be even more powerful than Goza and Vigo combined (it would probably DDT Rowan into the Hudson River).
The expanded team face this new threat with the arrival of a super scary weather front bringing spectral nasties to The Big Apple. The the city frozen solid, despite the fact that it’s July, and the cursed Death Chill on the loose, they’re going to need to do more than just cross the streams to fix things this time.
Cast
AdvertisementThe Ghostbusters Frozen Empire cast is another mix of old and new with most of the stars returning after the success of Afterlife. We’re not too sure who plays the villain, but we’ll add in more details to the cast list below as we get more trailers:
- Paul Rudd as Gary Grooberson
- Finn Wolfhard as Trevor Spengler
- Mckenna Grace as Phoebe Spengler
- Carrie Coon as Callie Spengler
- Bill Murray as Dr. Peter Venkman
- Dan Aykroyd as Dr. Raymond Stantz
- Ernie Hudson as Dr. Winston Zeddemore
- Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz
- Patton Oswalt
- Celeste O’Connor
- Logan Kim
- Kumail Nanjiani
Runtime
The official runtime for Ghostbusters Frozen Empire hasn’t been announced as of yet, but we should get confirmation soon as we get closer to the release date. Looking back on Afterlife that came out at 2 hours and 4 minutes long, so that should be a pretty good benchmark for what to expect from the runtime for the sequel.
Latest trailer
As things stand, we’ve only had one trailer for Ghostbusters Frozen Empire, which you can see in the video below, but the second is due imminently. It sets things up pretty well, covering the Spenglars being back in New York with the original ghost busting crew.
There’s a lot of focus on the arrival of the freak weather and Death Chill, along with a few glimpses of the evil heart behind it. It’s been a long time since we had a good new villain to add to Goza and Vigo, so hopefully Frozen Empire pulls it off with its horned ice king.
The song on the trailer is pretty good too, kicking things off in the hot sun of a New York summer with Cruel Summer by Bananarama. It’s a classic 80s pop track, and the last time we saw it on the big screen it was for the original Karate Kid movie back in 1984, the same year the very first Ghostbusters film came out.
