A trailer premier notification on YouTube initially confirmed that the next Fast & Furious instalment will be F9, so it’s time to look ahead at the UK release date (details below) and everything else we know about the film so far. This includes the latest on the age rating in the UK, our parents guide notes, details for the storyline, cast, and the trailer to give you a good idea about what to expect from the upcoming release.
The story will pick things up after the events of The Fate Of The Furious, which saw the crew going up against international cyberterrorist Cypher, played by Charlize Theron. However, with Cypher’s daring escape at the end of the 8th film, you’ve got to expect her to return with the release of F9 with vengeance in mind, but the big question is how unified the crew will be if she does rear her less than ugly head once again.
AdvertisementWe’ll find out more about the story once the trailer lands, which should confirm whether or not Cypher will be back for more mayhem. A YouTube post from Universal Pictures has confirmed that the trailer will land on Friday 31st January 2020, so there isn’t much time to go to see how F9 is shaping up and what it means for Dom, Letty, Hobbs, Shaw, Roman and Tej.
Cast
It doesn’t look like either Dwayne Johnson or Jason Statham will be starring in F9 following their spin-off breakaway last year in Hobbs & Shaw. However, other than that the majority of the cast from Fate should be back on the big screen together, including Vin Diesel as Dom, Michelle Rodriguez as Letty, Tyrese Gibson as Roman, and Chris Bridges as Tej. If Cypher is the antagonist once again then Charlize Theron will also be back in the role.

F9 Fast & Furious 9 UK release date
The F9 UK release date was initially scheduled for Friday the 22nd May 2020, but with the global pandemic, this was inevitably pushed back. The good news is that there is a new release date set out for the 9th July 2021. While it will be more than a year overdue, it’s one of the first big blockbusters on in the cinemas in the UK following the lockdown, so it should be one of the summer’s big films.
It is slated for release on the same weekend as Black Widow, which has also been put back significantly. They’ll both have a long clear window at the box office, so F9 is going to have a long time to land well, which gives it a great chance of hitting similar success as Hobbs & Shaw in 2019.

Age rating and parents guide
The British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) has officially announced the age rating for Fast & Furious 9 in the UK giving it a 12A. This is in line with the history of the series. The last three films, including Hobbs & Shaw, have all been 12s and that was a good indicator that it would be the case again for F9, which gives it a pretty wide appeal without taking away the action too much.
For anyone looking for parents guide notes on the film, you should expect moderate violence, fast cars and some occasional bad language. You can also check out any of the previous Fast & Furious films to find out first hand whether or not the 9th installment will be okay to view.
