Edward Scissorhands play UK tour

Edward Scissorhands play UK tourMichael Bourne’s adaptation of Tim Burton’s gothic classic, Edward Scissorhands, has recently been revived for a UK tour, with the musical play travelling to the likes of Manchester, London, Liverpool, Birmingham and Cardiff. Taking the surreal, enchanting and bitter sweet story behind the 1990 original starring Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder and throwing in even more music and dance, the play has managed to breath new life into the scimitar fingered classic.

The red ribbon for the tour dates was snipped on the 10th November 2014 at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth with a five day run, before moving on to Glasgow’s Theatre Royal on the 19th and Salford’s The Lowry on the 25th. The show cuts its way onto the London stage on the 2nd December 2014, bringing the production to Saddler’s Wells for a Christmas run that lasts until the 11th January 2015.

The tour continues well into 2015 with another nine short stop offs along the way before coming to a close at Cardiff’s Millenium Centre on the 10th March, with just four nights until the 14th. Full details on each of the legs of the Edward Scissorhands UK tour are below. Tickets range quite widely in price for each of the stop offs, so we’ve added specific detail for this below too, to give you a bit more info to go on.

Evening shows start at 7:30pm for each theatre performance, but with so few a number of dates at any one location, the developers have been smart enough to throw in Thursday and Saturday matinees to give you a couple more chances to see the show while it’s in town. The show’s around two hours long with a twenty minute intermission.

For anyone not familiar with the storyline, it’s the bitter sweet tale of love between the daughter of a saintly Avon sales lady and an unusual young man called Edward, who’s left with scissors for hands after his creator dies of a heart attack before he can finish him. However, the blossoms of their odd couple love isn’t allowed to bloom as the selfish tenancies of some of the other townspeople conspire to keep them apart.

To get a feel for what to expect from the play, you can watch the trailer video below to see how it has adapted the Burton masterpiece.
