In what appears to be a bid to shake things up at labour HQ and inject some new faces into the media, Ed Miliband has given his shadow cabinet a minor reshuffle. Thanks to a vote by the Labour Party to allow their leader to choose their own shadow cabinet members, he’s been given the freedom to include 6 new members from the 2010 intake. With the next UK general election not set to take place until 2015, it could work out well for Labour to change things up a bit early to give them a long run in to the general election.
The new faces include Chuka Umunna (MP for Streatham) who has been appointed as the Shadow Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Rachel Reeves (Leeds West) who is now the Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Stephen Twigg (Liverpool West Derby) as the Shadow Secretary of State for Education, Liz Kendall (Leicester West) Shadow Minister for Care and Older People, Margaret Curran (Glasgow East) as the Shadow Secretary of State for Scotland and Michael Dugher (Barnsley East) who is now Shadow Minister without Portfolio (Cabinet Office).
