The Portobello Film Festival 2011 best drama award has recently been won by 18 year old director, writer and actor Maia Krall Fry for her film, Ebony Road. Celebrating new and independent film makers, the film festival sets out to re-inspire the British film industry.
Fry, who is currently studying Geology at University, has had a bit of a whirlwind couple of years with the production of Ebony Road and the award is a clear recognition of her achievements at such a young age.
The film centres on the turbulent lives of two young, homeless sisters on the streets of London. With a spiralling decline and the specter of crime and prostitution the sisters face a tough test to make it.
Ebony Road premiered at the Portobello Film Festival’s Grand Opening, but details about further screenings have not been released. The trailer is wrapped on a knife-edge, so hopefully there will be more chances to see the film soon. Check back for more information.
