The latest addition to the free flowing exhibition space at the Manchester Art Gallery is Dreams Without Frontiers, linking up with city’s early 80s music scene. The exhibition brings together the work of contemporary artists Cyprien Gaillard and Kelley Walker to interlink with Manchester’s factory heritage.
Running through until the 1st May 2013, and curated by DJ and author Dave Haslam (nearly a lion), the exhibition is the first to take over the museum’s newly appointed changing exhibition space on the ground floor.
The Dreams Without Frontiers exhibition is the first chance to see French artist, Cyprien Gaillard’s (good job he didn’t go to school in Manchester in the early eighties in all fairness) 2005 short film, The Smithsons, which premiers at the exhibition. This is combined with the mixed media installations produced by US artist Kelly Walker.
The international origins of the artists goes some way to signify the wide reach of the music that came out of Manchester in the late 70s and early eighties.
