It turns out that the release of Django Django’s First Light single back in January 2015 was in fact a pretty big clue that they’ll be returning with their second album this year as they’ve recently announced Born Under Saturn is on its way. The single was the first new material from the London band in three years, since the release of their sparkling self-titled debut album in 2012, and the new record confirms their return big return to the airways in the run up to summer.
Set for release on CD, vinyl LP and digital download on the Star Wars day – May the 4th be with you – it’s got some pretty big boots to follow in the footsteps of with Django Django, which picked up a nomination for the 2012 Mercury Prize. Born Under Saturn is already available to pre-order from Amzon, iTunes and the band’s web shop, with the CD starting out with RRP of £9.99, £14.99 for the LP and £8.99 for the digital download.
Two of the thirteen song tracklist have already been put out by the band, with the first being the lead single, which you can listen to in on our First Light review page, and the second single, Reflections, which you can listen to in the music stream below – let us know what you think in the comments area at the bottom of the page. First Light is a direct continuation from the musical style of their last album, but with less world music influence, replacing it with new wave electronica, 60s psychedelia and some cool military drum structures.
Reflections is an addictive indie electro-pop track that hides a lot of interest under its seemingly nonchalant overcoat. It’s got parallels with Hot Chip in its slightly surreal sound-scape, especially the clarinet mid section melody and the deep, low-reverb synth keys outro.
In addition to the new music, Django Django has also confirmed that they’ll be touring on the back of the Born Under Saturn with UK dates starting on the 2nd May 2015 at The Lemon Tree in Aberdeen. They’ll also be calling in on Glasgow, London, Brighton, Bristol and Manchester, before heading out on the globetrotting tour, which will see them playing gigs in Paris, Poland, Germany, New York, San Francisco, Chicago, LA and Holland.
