Coming on like a heroin-free version of Royal Trux complete with lank haired boys on keyboards, bass & drums, Cults (from Brooklyn of course) ran through songs from their debut self titled LP with a mix of nerves & charm at an almost full Scala.
They began with current single “Abducted” utilising the quiet intro to almost lull some spectators into a false sense of security before clattering headlong into the rest of the song. Guitarist (Brian Oblivion) provided a growling counterpoint to lead singer Madeline Follin’s sweetness & light.
Slowing things down with an amazing version of “You Know What I Mean”, Follin showed that she’s no one-trick indie girl singer by belting out the chorus.
After about 30 minutes including a crowd-rousing run through of their first single “Go Outside”, it was time for the last song & they were off, back to the confines of the Scala’s tiny dressing room.
