Creed III age rating, UK release date, runtime and more

Creed 3 UK release date, age rating and runtime

The Creed III UK release date is the first in the history of the boxing franchise to skip on Sylvester Stallone, so there was always going to be a little more pressure on its shoulders than the previous two movies. Here’s everything you need to know about the film, including the story, cast, age rating certificate and runtime.

Michael B. Jordon steps into the ring as both the lead character and the director, which is his debut behind the camera. Ryan Coogler (Fruitvale Station, Black Panther 2 Wakanda Forever) has penned the story with his brother Keenan and Zach Baylin (King Richard, Gran Turismo), so it’s got a strong writing team behind it.

The plot for Creed 3 picks up with Adonis five years after the events of the previous film. He’s the champion of the world and has everything going for him. However, things get heated when an old friend, Damien (Jonathan Majors), is released from prison and comes to Donnie for a shot at boxing redemption.

He’s a pretty intense character and everything looks set to built to a fierce and emotionally charged battle both inside and outside the ring. Damien seems determined to inflict pain, feeling bitter about his time in jail while Donnie took the boxing world by storm.

There are shades of Rocky IV about the plot if the scene with the Damien’s early boxing match is anything to go by, so things are going to get personal. Hopefully, it’ll also have at least a little of the “if I can change, and you can change, we can all change” mentality before the credits roll.

The Creed III cast will see Michael B. Jordan starring as Adonis Creed as he faces off against Jonathan Majors as Damien Anderson. Tessa Thompson (Thor Love and Thunder) is also back as Bianca and Florian Munteanu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) returns as Viktor Drago.

Donnie’s Coach, Tony, will be played by Wood Harris once again to round out the main cast. You can also see that Canelo Álvarez makes a cameo appearance in the film as himself and British boxer Tony Bellew plays Ricky Conlan once again.

Creed 3 UK release date

The Creed III UK release date took place on Friday the 3rd March 2023, so it’s one of the first big movies out in time for the Easter holidays. It came out in North America on the same date, so there wasn’t much in the way of spoilers to avoid online.

It arrived around 4 and a half years after Creed 2 had its release back in 2018, following on from the Rocky franchise reboot that began with the first film in 2015. It’ll be interesting to see whether or not there will be more films in the series after III, but a lot will rest on the success at the box office.

The movie industry has had a pretty remarkable shake-up since 2018 with the impact of Covid and the streaming wars. However, films like Top Gun Maverick and Spider-Man No Way Home have been able to land well, so there’s definitely potential for Michael B. Jordan’s directorial debut.

With the March 2023 release date it will probably go on to arrive on DVD, Blu-ray and standard digital just as the summer holidays kick in in the UK. However, there’s bound to be a Home Premier early access release either in May or June 2023, depending on how things go at the box office.

It came out in the US for early access purchase and rental in early April, which is much earlier than expected. It will be a similar story for the DVD, Blu-ray and 4K release in North America, which is currently scheduled for May 23rd, 2023.

Age rating certificate

The official Creed III UK age rating was confirmed by the BBFC as the release date closed in, and it’s been given a 12A certificate. In North America it has been given an age rating of PG-13 and both reflect the details for the previous two films in the series.

There was already a lot to take from the last two entries in the series. Both of them were given a 12 certificate, so we were expecting that to be the case again for the third film in the Rocky franchise reboot.

They both had advisory notes of moderate violence and language and there isn’t much in the trailer to imply that things are going to be that different the third time around. It was a similar story with all of the Rocky films going all the way back to the debut back in 1976.

We’ll keep you updated on the certification details and you can see the trailer below to get more of a feel for what to expect. However, watching the first two Creed films will give you the best view on things from a parents guide point of view.

Runtime

As with the age rating, the runtime for Creed 3 was announced close to release date and it clocks in at 1 hour and 56 minutes. Looking at the previous films, which were both around the 2 hours and 10 minutes mark, it looks like they’ve gone for more of a streamlined approach for the third installment.

Creed III trailer

The Creed III trailer has a similar serious tone to its predecessors, both the reboots and the original Rocky franchise. This time around, the issues are with the arrival of an old friend on the scene just out of prison having served a long sentence, which appears to be linked to a younger Donnie.

The fight action looks a little more staged that before, but with solid reviews everything strung together a little smoother for the full release of the film in March. There were big expectations for Jonathan Majors, who has already impressed Loki Season 1 as He Who Remains (an alternate version of Nathaniel Richards, AKA Kang).

He’s also set to be Kang the Conqueror in Phase 5 and 6 of the MCU, which began with Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania. It was out a few weeks earlier than Creed III, and then Loki Season 2 was meant to be arriving on Disney+ later this year.

The arrest and controversy is going to be a big part of the conversation around all of these projects, so it’s hard to say for sure how they’re all going to pan out. We’ve already seen that Secret Invasion will be the next MCU TV series on Disney+, so who knows what that means for the second season of Loki or films like Avengers The Kang Dynasty.

Jonathan Majors has denied the charges and it’s fair to say that everyone is innocent until proven guilty. However, the speedy release of Creed III on home media in North America could be a sign of more changes to come.
