This is a good shout for a great London comedy show any week of the year as it consistently pulls together a great mix of comedians for a night of improvised ramblings. With two shows per week and a very impressive list of regular performers, as well as some cool guest appearances, the Comedy Store Players make for a class night out.
You’ve only got to look at some of the recent nights, which include the likes of Paul Merton, Josie Lawrence, Phil Jupitus, Marcus Bridgestocke and Rufus Hound, to see the heavyweight (Sorry Phil) class that Comedy Store Players is all about. Regulars at the moment include Merton, Lawrence, Neil Mullarkey, Andy Smart, Richard Vranch and Lee Simpson, but equally you could be surprised by a mystery guest like the addition of Mike Myers who made a guest appearance on Sunday 3rd July 2013.
However, it’s not just about famous faces. There’s also a good few new and up and coming comedians on the scene to check out too. You probably won’t recognise too many of them straight off, but in and amongst them there’s bound to be the next Des O’ Conner or Norman Wisdom, so worth a shout also.
Comedy Store Players, London, is on every Wednesday night at 8pm and Sundays at 7:30pm. There’s no scripts and it’s every man for himself so expect anything and everything. I don’t think there’s such a thing as a comedy-off in the show (a bit like what that little Marshall Mathers did in 8 Mile), but if there was I’d love to see Jupitus facing off against Bridgestocke because if I’m honest I think it would end in a very mighty, but bitchy little scrap. It would be brilliantly majestic! Like a bizarre sumo bout. Grease ’em up and let ’em loose I say.
Tickets prices for a Comedy Store players night are £17 for adults and £12 for students, nurses and WOW or Time Out card holders. With a continuous stream of top comics, it is one of the best opportunities to see a few funny faces that you might recognise from the goggle box, no matter what week you’re in town. Tickets can sell out in advance, so make sure you book up beforehand. Visit the website for more details – www.thecomedystore.co.uk.
You can find the Comedy Store on Oxenden Street, just off Coventry Street in London’s Piccadilly Circus. It’s next door to TGI Fridays and opposite the Prince of Wales Theatre.
