Collin Murray is about to embark on an epic Olympic journey for his new show, Colin Murray’s Gold Run, coming soon to Radio 5 Live. His job is simple on paper, but the reality of hunting down all 114 British Olympic gold medalists to celebrate the London 2012 Olympic Games is probably going to warrant a gold medal all by itself.
The show is scheduled to start on Sunday the 27th May 2012 at 11am and will run every Sunday until the 22nd July 2012, finishing just in time for the opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The shows are 1 hour long with a 2 hour finale, but then there’s a lot to fit in. You’ve got the likes of Linford Christie, Seb Coe, David Hemery, the whole 2004 chicken wings loving men’s relay team, Jonathan Edwards and the legendary Daley Thomson on the men’s side and Christine Ohuruogu, Kelly Holmes, Tessa Sanderson (Sorry Fatima), Denise Lewis and Mary Peters (yeah, she’s the one that smashed up Heidi) on the women’s front.
Heading out into the world with just a mic and a hire car, he’ll be on a mission to track them down and get some of the legends’ best Olympic stories down on tape. Gold Run will be all about how the gold medalists got their Olympic dream result, but equally it will also be about 1 man’s dream to find them and bring them all together in a big radio packaged, gold leaved parcel.
Colin is doing a fantastic job. I love this programme as when I was younger(??) I was quite sporty hence find listening to all these fantastic sport people great. Genuine people not all getting paid for doing a lot of hard work/training. Not much sponsorships in the early days either! It is also lovely to hear all the good humour amongst the guests and Colin, especially in what seems to be missing these days.
